  • Yeah, hopefully they put some safeguards in place because they won’t be so lazy next time.

  • Harris would just name a new VP to break any ties in the Senate.

  • Yeah, that was my first thought after watching it. There were hints at a good story and characterization but nope, gotta move on to the next scene.

  • Believing accusers should always be the first step. But when independent organizations investigate and find that accuser’s story is contradicted by known facts and not corroborated by other witnesses or any evidence whatsoever, then no, we shouldn’t still believe them.

  • It’s Tara Reade first off. Secondly she defected to Russia in the company of a known Russian intelligence asset whom she termed a “friend.” So excuse everyone who thinks her story might be suspect.

  • Oh, it gets even worse. Some states require party identification when registering to vote, some are optional, and others don’t ask about it at all. Relatedly, the party primaries can be “open” (anyone can vote in it) or “closed” (only party-identified voters can participate). Also, the party may choose to do a caucus instead of a primary, so instead of just casting a ballot to choose a nominee, registered party voters select party members who have declared for a nominee and then they hold votes to see if a nominee has enough votes to win.

And that’s the simplified version. It’s a total clusterfuck and if there was a national standard that was easily understandable, things would be so much better.

  • Those are actually two entirely separate things. Membership in a local political party in the US is unrelated to whether you vote for that party. Party members are more active in organizing and generally have to be approved by other party members, whereas anyone can register as a party voter (in states that require/allow that).

  • Since you seem to be willfully misunderstanding what I was saying or what I was replying to, I think we’re done here.

  • But there is one small group of people in America with the power to push Joe Biden out of the race. Who are they? The major donors to the Democratic Party.

Surprising no one who has been paying attention.

  • What I’m saying is that because most large businesses in China are either directly controlled by the government or run by ranking party members, someone in power probably already knew this was going on and didn’t care because it made them money. What they do care about is getting caught, made to look foolish, and ruining China’s ability to export cheap, unregulated, and often dangerous crap across the globe. That’s what gets you punished in a situation like this in China, not the actual endangerment of people.

  • They take getting caught seriously, not the stuff they get caught at. Remember the government essentially has its finger in every pie so this kind of thing is not bad because it endangered people’s lives, it’s bad because it makes them look bad and might impact their exports.

  • United’); DROP TABLE States of New America

  • It’s not just the look, it’s performative. It can be any sex assigned at birth and any gender - including nonbinary, as the subject of the article identifies.

Depending on your viewpoint, there’s an argument to be made that KISS, Alice Cooper, and many hair metal bands were a form of drag.

  • I think he’s the perfect example of “clever but not smart.” Genius implies any of what he says or does is intentional - it’s not. But because he’s lived his whole life in privilege and the weird miasma that is the current reality, he’s able to wedge himself into a position where half the country who should despise him loves him instead.

The reality of Trump appeals to very few but the idea of Trump appeals to many with the awareness to be afraid, but neither the intellect or the courage to understand why - so they’ve latched on to the symbol of him and stick with it to avoid the cognitive dissonance.

  • Yeah, I get that - it’s downright silly in a lot of ways, but I found that fun myself. If looking for Robocop-type things, you did see this, right? It’s a pretty good shooter, and the anti-corp tone is straight out of the first movie.
