  • Keeping it off the internet is just a security measure- as well as avoiding windows updates. It looks pretty crummy having a Microsoft dialog box splashed all over your lovely signage.

I'm thinking your second option would be ideal. I just thought there might be a way to tunnel through the VPN over the internet, without actually letting the machine see the internet. Thanks very much for your help!

  • What always gets me when I see paper like this, is just how much manpower, engineering time, experimentation, materials science, and just sheer concerted effort went into making paper this fucking thin and useless.

  • I'm with you, friend. If I'm working, I prefer to just work until it's done or I feel I need a break. For me, starting a job, it takes a couple hours to define the problem, a couple to investigate and prioritise tasks, then to start looking into solutions, and suddenly it's time to stop. Then there's all the time commuting, taking breaks, etc.

I prefer to just get in, get in the zone, knock out a slab of work and get a job done. It takes a few extra hours on a work day, so be it, it was going to be a work day anyway. By doing that, it gives me a day off? Yes please.

  • It's a very good lesson- to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if the teacher is deliberately putting an arbitrary restriction on the assignment.

If you want to have a career, the people that pay you are going to make you do things that you consider to be ridiculous. That's work, that's life. You've got three options- Just smile and nod and do it their way, get huffy and tell them that you don't like their yapping and you'll do their project your own way, or politely suggest there may be an alternative way, and ask if they are willing to be flexible with some requirements.

  • Ooh exciting, I've wanted to find someone with your knowledge! I couldn't find a good answer when I was researching this a while back.

How powerful of a laser would I need to cut 18mm ply at a workable speed? Would I need crazy cooling setups? And what size steel or aluminium could I cut with that?

This would be a home DIY setup, but on the 'serious business' side of DIY.
