  • The developer of Pixelfed - an Instagram-alike (and now Loops.video - a TikTok like platform) announced that he is working on an ActivityPub messaging service called "Sup." There's nothing else really known about it except that he's developing it. AP would actually work fairly well as a messaging protocol aside from the lack of end-to-end encryption, but that too is being worked on.

  • I have chronic pain and I'm all for innovation in the realm of pain management, but I personally won't even think about taking that drug for many, many years. Fucking with sodium channels sounds super dangerous. There are so many variables they just could not have tested or even guessed at. It also doesn't help that if there's an adverse reaction to be had, I'm gonna have it.

  • I’ve been wondering that as well and I had a kind of scary thought; maybe there is no opposition party this time around because what’s happening is exactly what all parties involved want to be happening. I’m just so baffled by the state of politics in the US that I can’t help but to feel like we’re witnessing some kind of sea change in the fundamental structure of the government. Unfortunately it is not a progressive or thoughtful change in ideology.

  • Damn, I didn’t think of it quite like that, but yup, that’s exactly the result.

  • Indeed! Kinda makes me want to come up with some sort of “snac-service” idea.

  • That is obviously good for people who’ve amassed a lot of medical debt in the US. Anecdotally, most of the people I call friends have at least a few thousand dollars worth of medical debt and the idea of trying to build credit or get loans is alien to them because of it.

  • That’s a really cool use for snac! It’s perfect for something so straightforward and uses so little resources that I would imagine if you eventually have the entire planets weather forecasts being published it would still only use a tiny amount of bandwidth and power!

  • No longer pissed and you don’t bother me…

  • I don’t know of a single word or bit of slang that describes that (annoying) type of personality. It’s a bit contrarian with a dash of experience hijacking. There should be a word for that though. Any ideas?

  • Seems like just about all games end up overdue by years (or sometimes a decade) these days.

  • I have been thinking about some old survival game that I used to play that doesn’t exist anymore recently, maybe it’s time I give The Long Dark some real playtime!

  • I think one of the main reasons why the fediverse didn’t blow up much bigger than it did over the past couple of years is because of the weird and insistent need to explain how it works from every possible angle with seemingly every possible analogy. It’s information overload and it only confuses the shit out of people who do not care in the slightest how it works.

Hmm… maybe if we tell the nerds that they need to add an “abstraction layer” to their explanations that might motivate them to simplify?

  • I’ve had that one in my library since it originally came out and I’ve been wanting to play it ever since, but haven’t found time. I understand they’ve added quite a bit since the early days!

  • Indeed. I’ve had a few decent experiences with the justice system here, but far more were horrible if not straight up tragic.

  • The particular small town I live in has about five “main” families that pretty much own everything and everywhere. They’re also the ones who hold all the local government positions. If I would’ve known all this before moving here, I would not have. At least now I know to research things like that before choosing a place to live in the future. Nepotism is not only common here, it’s a way of life.

And yes, it’s in the US.

  • I had a drunk driver crash into my car parked in front of my house at 3:15 in the afternoon and completely totaled the car. He sped away as I watched and so I called the police. They did catch up with him, but ultimately when it went to court the district attorney dropped the ball on some document details and the fuckhead basically got out of any sort of restitution. He did have his license revoked and probation, but my family no longer had a car and it seriously fucked us for well over a year.

I live in a small town and a couple years later I found out that the guy is not only related to the local judge, but also the district attorney.

  • Perfect timing for me! I was starting to plan out how I was going to transcode my media library and had decided to write a script to do it. So I’ll give this one a try!

  • I had the same thoughts about using a domain as username and it is basically smoke and mirrors. I did not know however that you can use a domain for a bridged account. Are you saying that my ActivityPub account that is bridged to Bluesky can have a username that is a domain that I own?

  • It really is great! The amount of innovation and creativity in regard to the Fediverse is amazing. Although Bluesky seems to be blowing up big right now, I’m actually hopeful that it will motivate those of us within the ActivityPub realm to create even more and it seems to already be happening.

I’d love to see an easier path of entry to Lemmy as well. “Community Packs” would be a great way to help with that!

  • As soon as someone that is similar to most people in my life sees the words “.csv” and “hamburger menu” their eyes will glaze over and they’ll bounce.

Plus there’s step number 4 that I know will scare folks away…

Select Import and Export >>> Import >>> Import type dropdown: “Lists” (NOT “Following list”) >>> Verify that ‘Merge’ is selected >>> Browse >>> Select “[file name] – list.csv” >>> Upload >>> Confirm
