  • One thing to note is that making an industry more efficient (like translating, which gpt is really good at, much better than google translate but not necessarily better than existing tools) comes with a decrease in the amount of jobs. Tech doesn't have to eliminate the human portion, but if it even makes one more human twice as efficient in their job, thats half the humans you need doing that job for the same amount of work output.

That being said this is not a great infographic for this topic.

  • Sure, but that puts you at a disadvantage when it comes to the message. You don't have to be full corpo sterile to just ensure that you are not making mistakes in your message. This sort of decision should not be an emotional one IMO.

  • I support the decision (and it contributes towards my decision to move away from lemmy.world since I am mostly on this server anyway) but I think you have the wrong rationale behind this decision. Yes everything you say is valid but you don't need those reasons. Saying that its close to CSAM or that you assumed that it was just puts you in a position where people can criticize your position because maybe they don't see it that way and would not have assumed it to be that if they saw it unprompted (these are terrible arguments but people will make them). The offending community is built on principles that are incompatible with this server. You do not want the server that you host and admin (and its communities) to so closely share a user base with that community given the type of content it encourages, regardless of the legality of that content. Thus you are defederating.

Basically you could be a whole lot more corporate sterile about this messaging.

  • Who else would post such stuff? Regular users, other mods? If a sub has no mods the admins have to step in. So this distinction you are making serves no purpose.

This bot account is actually making recent posts, why the fuck is there a pic of these months old one?

  • Wait till you hear about oracle machines. They can solve any problem, even the halting problem.

(It's just another mathematical construct that you can do cool things with to prove certain things)

  • Well, the record high temperatures are what cause the forest fires so we do have to take that into account. And the radiant heat that the fire gives off dissipates with the inverse square law so that limits it's contribution. Really it seems that the only major contributing factor to the increased heat, other than the effects of the already high ambient temperature and thus the decreased apparent humidity, are the excitation of the air molecules as they are transformed from elemental oxygen and plant matter into hydrogen hydroxide and carbon dioxide, along with other molecules due to incomplete combustion and contaminates. Overall I think a safe bet would be 2.

  • I think you have it backwards, the paradox of tolerance is the idea that we must be intolerant towards the intolerant, rather than showing tolerance freely to even those that wish us harm. It is seemingly a paradox because it says that to spread tolerance we have to actually be intolerant towards a specific group.

  • Wow, they really went all in alienating their user base.

What the fuck actually happened behind the scenes to cause all this? Like I get that some upper leadership is probably trying to cash out or something, but why? What is the motivation? What changed all of a sudden to cause this?

  • Literally switched back to Chrome even though I hate it on my phone because for reasons beyond my understanding Firefox does not have pull to reload. Ah but you might say that the nightly version does and I did try to use it for a while, but it also for some reason it very minorly messes with text selection in a way that no other app does.

On desktop Chrome has some great tab management features that I am currently used to, not to mention a bunch of other incredibly minor features. Like why does Firefox reimplement the standard middle click scrolling in windows with its own and not let me use the normal one? The firefox one is weirdly sensitive and I can't change that. All these minor annoyance and added jank mean that I want to switch for privacy, but won't for usability. But Chrome is also getting some BS that Google is trying with extensions so, maybe I will switch... eventually.

  • The fucked up part is that the technology to take away all the tedious jobs is already there, but for some reason it's more cost effective to use humans for the tedious shit. Maybe something to do with the fact that minimum wage has stagnated over the past how ever the fuck many years.

  • Also to be fair to the meme, it's a meme. Crass and making generalizations to paint a situation in a slightly humorous context is the name of the game. No one actually believes that we apply such sweeping generalizations to everyone. Not to mention where the meme is posted. We are in 196, a queer positive meme community, on blahaj zone, a server whose name references a product which has become a known trans symbol. The memes are going to be LGBT related in general. Anyone arguing that this meme is in any way divisive is likely doing so in bad faith and wasting your and my time.

You are replying to a commenter making a joke about how more gender nuance is somehow related to your status, like we get it, you have the one joke punching down on gender non-conforming folk and cannot for the life of you think up another. Literally attack helicopter levels of bad joke. What the fuck is this comments section.

  • Lol what? This meme is about discussing gender with different groups of people. What does meeting new people have to do with anything? Are you discussing gender with arbitrary people you just met for the first time? I would advise against that, other than maybe mentioning your pronouns when introducing yourself.

  • Cis people often do not think about gender so you find that people who are very well informed about gender can't talk with the same amount of nuance as they do with other people who are very well informed about gender. You just have to simplify the concepts so that those who don't know them yet can understand.

  • Necessity. When most of the software you use is reliant on Windows it's hard to make Linux your daily driver. That being said, the changes needed to make it worth it are already done in limited contexts. Steam deck is pure Linux, the user interface and everything is implemented in a way that the user does not have to deal with the complexity, but the underlying mechanisms for doing wonky shit is still there if you want to mess with it. It's kinda the best of both worlds in that sense.

If we wanted a desktop experience to replicate that, you would just have to do the exact same thing. Abstract the user experience such that the layperson does not need to engage with the complicated bits, but leave them there for those that do want them. And arguably that is being done with some distros, but it's just not quite there yet.
