I never used Twitter much so I don't really have a need for it most of the time but it's nice to have a dain option if I do want to look at something on the Bird site! It's definitely great but in this context I only mentioned it because it's part of Kavins record of properly hosting stuff for years.
Oof, I think the easiest way to contact Kavin is Mastodon or EMail but I asked him to create a community for stuff like that on Lemmy. Good luck singing up!

I use it and don' care much but it's definitely Torrenting so if you are in a country with bad laws and very paranoid you whould probably use a VPN but just know that the few actual lawsuites that came from this bs are at best symbolic and your chance to get hit by a lightning is probably a lot higher.
It's not a new feature, not especially attractive to average joe and I don't really think average joe even cares about features as long as Youtube, GMail and Google Drive load.
There are a few good ones, I am on feddit.rocks now but it's still in a rather WIP stage (E.g. the defederation policy isn't written yet) so idk if I would recommend that to others, still a nice place without much drama or users and hosted by Kavin (the creator of Piped and long time hoster of multiple third party frontends like Nitter and Bibliogram)
There isn't enough people who can afford to pay 50$+ a month to watch all of that but people want to watch it so I think you are very wrong there, as soon as the user experience gets awful or expensive enough piracy numbers skyrocket.
You kind of answered your own question, because every movie studio will want a own streaming service and as soon as the total cost is too high people start to pirate in masses again.
I am not very familiar with iOS but if everything goes wrong you could probably use Piped as a PWA, that's a website but one that uses caching very well and has support for Sponsorblock and Dearrow to get the optimal Youtube experience!
For everyone who is too lazy to read that too: It's basically the british version of chat controll and aims to bypass e2ee but with even worse filters! I recently listened to a great interview that detailed the (at least to me) most scarry usecase, apparently they also want to scan for "positive depictions of arriving refugee boats" whatever that's supposed to mean!
True, the legidimacy of criticism is often very questionable because you quickly land in tinfoil hat territory but only one side has a ton of money to fund scientists!
