  • Object storage, object storage and webp my friend. Or off hosting images, unsure.

  • An instance dedicated to art and art focused things would help spread the federation out and attract users who are focused primarily on art. It's really not a good idea to put everything on one instance. It's a thing that occurs on the fediverse, outside of specific instances there are niche and hobby focused instances that attract a lot of people. Everyone is just crowding all their communities into the general purpose instances and that's not really how the fediverse is intended to work.

  • Fixed the formatting and deleted the second post, I made an oopsie when trying to crosspost to fediverse@lemmy.world and it post to this same community again 🫣

  • Mainly focusing on my instances communities as much as I can

  • You are more than welcome to! We have so.. much.. books.

  • And if lemmy.world went down it wouldn't be accessible, thus negating the reason for decentralization in the first place. Having everything placed in one instance is not good nor healthy for the future of the fediverse. Having things advertised in the new community community is a helpful way of doing so at least. Navigation of other instances needs to be improved upon though.

  • They shouldn't be created on larger instances, they really should be made on small niche focused instances to spread things out.

  • People want Reddit 2.0. There's a lot of people who joined lemmy.world who are actively hostile to the idea of decentralization.

  • Yes. That is 100% the end point of this.

  • I agree, this thread is just deeply unnecessary

  • Quite a few people have been really hostile to the idea of spreading across the federation from lemmy.world. Some just are fixated on the idea reddit 2.0 over everything else right now. Even more so, I've offered to host and help migrate over some book/writing related communities that are on lemmy.world and it like seems some of the mods in communities there are fine with doing but if they did so lemmy.world would just reopen the community with new mods choking the new community to death. When lemdroid migrated over lemmy.world overtook the community and reopened it with new mods, lemdroid still doesn't compare in size to the android community they forcefully reopened.

Alongside that, I've considered opening a general art focused lemmy instance to help spread things out further, but I don't know if I could pay for two instances right now. Right now literature.cafe is out of my pocket, but I have a nice domain for it on hand and the spare time to make if there is interest and others willing to contribute, so who knows. dunno where to even gauge interest on that though tbh 🤷

  • Or at least a demo site if it's a web site or self hosted web based app 🥲

  • Why isn't he running as a Republican????? Is he just trying to the split the vote? I don't understand at all

  • I just thought it was funny honestly. I dunno if you're being sarcastic or not I can't tell

  • I messaged r/comicbooks mods after they were briefly banned by reddit offering them a place on my instance if they ever wanted to shift their community away from reddit. They threatened to permanently ban me for spam LMAO

  • Oh no, I love electron. That's not a dig on it, it's just very much a resource hog.
