Are they really? Do you have any sources for that? That’s a very lofty claim. I know some mastodon instances are likely to be, but Lemmy? with how new it is feels kind of far fetched
It's better to have instances (so long as they can exist long term) that have niche focuses as they tend to attract users in those niches and it spreads things out across the federation. Right now a lot of people are just crowding their communities on general purpose instances and that's just not healthy whatsoever for the fediverse
Oooh heck yeah! That solves that issue. I'd love to help out over there! I like the name, it sounds super cute :)
If you need any help on the technical side of things/admin stuff I can help if you want. Lemmy is annoying as fuck to set up and manage sometimes 🫠
I'd def say if you're hosting files locally consider enabling conversion of images to webp for using less storage space and consider the potential of object storage in the long term as well as limiting upload sizes alongside using a blocklist to block some of the worst of the worst fediverse instances (there is some nasty mastodon instances out there, like genuinely.) I have my matrix link in my bio (I think?)
Likely within the API, but I would say be cautious as people on the fediverse really do not like having their data scraped, especially for projects like this.
Posting the comment I made over on !fediverse@lemmy.ml but I checked and made some calculations and unfortunately I just don't have the budget for the initial cost this month AND this instance alongside that. Probably next month I would. Sorry yall.
Hm, seems like my idea may have to wait for next month. I checked and unfortunately don't have the initial cost for paying for a new VPS budgeted for this month AND the current cost of this instance.
Honestly right now I'm unsure if I should buy a new VPS. Unsure about initial hosting overall and if I can justify that initial cost. Am slightly curious if I could start the instance off this VPS since lemmy doesn't use that much resources, but I'd be concerned about breaking federation potentially.
I think starting off on lemmy and potentially branching off to pixelfed might be a good starting point. Pixelfed is very very very much in its infancy, even compared to lemmy
Okay… then how in the hell do you know this then? I’m sorry, but this has real my dad works at Nintendo right now. Those are extremely serious claims.
I’m sorry but it feels suspicious given the fact that the dude who is speculated to have started this was a troll.
