  • Lemmy.sdf.org they are a very very very old internet tech focused community that’s been since the late 80s. They’ve been pretty much everywhere on the internet as it’s grown

  • The fact that ISPs in the US are not considered utilities and are regulated as such is baffling but kinda on brand

  • They really made the zip domain then dipped out

  • It's deeply unfortunate it's essentially made itself the "default"

  • It came after I was arguing with weirdo antisemites in c/atheistmemes so I assume it was because of that but I have no idea and don’t really care to know that much

  • Absolutely, literally just swap instances. Hopefully instance migration comes in a similar way that mastodon offers.

  • That's a very soft looking cat 10/10

  • You literally can go to another instance you know that right.... that's the beauty of the fediverse...

  • Which shouldn't have happened in the first place.

  • I don't even think threads would be all that compatible with lemmy even if they implemented activitypub support, the way it interacts with mastodon is janky at best

  • People shouldn't be congregating on a single instance anyway. The federation shouldn't be focused on trying to make centralization, communities and people need to spread out

  • Aw I appreciate it. It’s all good, slow organic growth is better than unsustainable rapid artificial growth. I hope you’re enjoying your book and I’d love to hear your thoughts on whatever it may be (and maybe add another book to my ever growing TBR πŸ‘€)

  • A community? No, you just gotta be dedicated to starting conversations and promoting it.

An instance though? Can be hit or miss.

  • I wish they were visible to others or had an admin option to add it the modlog cause people write some funny shit in there 😭

  • If not supporting means you feel that we don't deserve civil rights then yeah they should be banned

  • I can help you figure out the email stuff, it's really really frustrating to get working with lemmy but not impossible. I'll DM my matrix chat link. And yeah, I've noticed some of the complications and I suspect it's similar issues I've had myself as well on a VPS. There's specific settings you need to do if you are using a VPS that has reverse DNS set to the lemmy instance domain sometimes.
