  • Value your time and sanity over pure monetary value. It seems like something Lemmy users seem to do the complete opposite of at all times.

Saving $1 on a flash drive could have cost $100 on a motherboard. Saving $20 could have cost you $100 buying another one.

  • I say it should be illegal for cars to be sold with white, grey or black paint. I'll make exceptions for super pearlescent white/black/silvers. Vans and work trucks can be white, Limos can be black. That's it.

    Also more purple cars please.

  • The policy states that employees should not communicate online in a manner that’s “unprofessional” or that would “significantly and adversely impact [their] work-related reputation.”

    so·cial me·di·a

websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

It absolutely meets the media part of things, and while it’s not a place for just casual “socializing” you’re still communicating with others. It’s not what we’d first think of as social media, but then again people somehow think lemmy isn’t social media.

  • It's incredible as long as everything is 100% optimal. Because my co worker's yard has trees just barely too tall around it his connection drops all the time. Heavy storms also cause issues

When it works it's great. But it doesn't always work. 5g is MUCH more reliable than Starlink.

  • but I would guess 90% of Americans do not drive their car off-road more than once or twice a year total

But for that 1% change they do possibly think about taking their car off road they can. Therefore they need a 70000 4000 pound pickup and not a sedan.

  • New and used GPU prices are still high. Right as prices started to dip close to reasonable levels all the 4090s started getting snapped up drying up the high end of the market. And with the horribly overinflated MSRP of mid range cards they've stayed high instead of dropping to a level that's actually reasonable for their performance. It's trickle down economics, but in the worst way possible for the consumer.

  • Full blown hearing protection and headphones with ANC are completely different beasts. Unless that hearing pro also has Active Noise Cancelation.

Hearing protection reduces the audio level by X decibels. They're great for if you're at a job sight with a lot of loud shit, or the shooting range where there's extremely loud things that will destroy you hearing.

ANC tries to actively cancel it out so if done right you don't hear anything at all. Airpods pro with well fitting ear tips work extremely well for blocking out office noises. They're not so great for sudden super loud noises. My friend swears by the comply foam tips. Just know you'll need to replace them often because the foam absorbs ear wax like crazy.

  • Being able to work in quiet while others are yammering around you is priceless.

And they make headphones for that.

But if you're out walking around in the city you absolutely want to be aware of whats around you, and it's absolutely not a niche usage. That's why the airpods, and lots of other headphone offer both. Transparency for when you want to be aware, noise cancelation for when you don't.

  • Try making sure you're looking for a DSL modem, and not a DSL modem router combo. If it's just a modem then there is no bridge mode to enable because it's always in bridge mode. You'll have to supply your own separate router, but that gives you the freedom to run whatever you want on your router while the modem does it's modemy things.

  • I drink caffeine in the morning, but I really need to stay away from it after that. If I drink coffee later on in the day (or just a lot in the morning) then I won't be able to get good sleep. If I don't get good sleep them I won't be able to concentrate.

Working out also really helps me fall asleep at night. I do some weight lifting during the day at work, and some cardio at night. I also don't try to force myself to get to sleep, I try to make sure that I will be tired by bed time by burning off any remaining energy during the evening so I'm tired when my alert to start winding down goes off.

But good sleep is absolutely the key. When I get bad sleep, especially consistently bad sleep I can't concentrate.
