  • During COVID lockdown, my work did remote 'cook together' team-building classes, led by a cook on Zoom. They would send out list of ingredients to buy ahead of time. Only a few managed to get ALL the ingredients, no matter how obscure.

They were all people who had a 99 Ranch near them. It turned into a running gag.

  • I just met someone who was going through the same question. They decided to take a two-year course and become a Physical Therapist, focusing on the elderly.

Said options were working with a medical group, at a nursing home, visiting people at home, or opening an office. Maybe a combination.

Their thinking was there was no way to get 'disrupted' and there would be endless demand. Made a lot of sense.

  • That was amazing! Watched the video with my Trackmania-crazy kid. I've played it a few times but I'm total crap at it. We couldn't peel our eyes off the action. The first external shot of the track shows how insanely difficult it was going to be.

  • In our neck of the woods, membership in the Automobile Association comes with free maps. You have to go into their offices and request them, and they're very helpful about which maps may come handy.

I usually get them before a long roadtrip into areas where they may be weak cell service. To be safe, I also download digital maps, but a paper map gives better broad context on where we are and what is nearby.

Problem is, we're terrible at getting rid of them after the trips...

  • Trying to Sherlock 1Passwd a second time? They tried it with iCloud passwords and it didn't work.

    Live and learn, kids.

Edit: To be clear, 1Passwd survived by:

    • Going cross-platform
    • Family plan (including family-shared vaults)
    • Enterprise
    • Bundling and partnering (with the likes of Eero)

They had the know-how, people, and money to pull it off. Not every indie app getting Sherlocked can do that.

  • If using pyenv to support multiple python versions, when creating venvs, make sure to pass --copies to it.

    % python3 -m venv venv --copies

Ordinarily, venv uses symbolic links back to the current version of the python binary. A lot of tools and IDEs don't traverse symbolic links. That flag actually copies the real binaries over to the venv.

This avoids a metric ton of hard-to-diagnose misery later on.
