That's a really high dose of melatonin. If you take that much, your body depends on it and stops producing it naturally. Most people only need about .25 mg.
My preferred method is yoga (often Yoga with Adriene on YouTube), then meditate in corpse pose. Sometimes I'll do a guided yoga nidra meditation on YouTube. Taking a leisurely walk through the park or woods while taking care to notice the surroundings is also nice.
I recommend volunteering at a sanctuary to determine if it's something you really want. Having a pet fox is practically a full time job. Most people can't handle it, and many end up in sanctuaries.
