  • There is (or was?) a church in SF Tenderloin that lets people sleep in the sanctuary every weekday. Somebody quietly comes around to offer meals to anybody who is awake. I was already an exchristian at the time, but being there and seeing that was inspiring. It was the kind of church action that every church I ever attended called people to do and claimed to do, but never did.

Edit: here's an article about it https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Project-Gubbio-at-St-Boniface-sanctuary-of-sleep-3407103.php

Looks like it's more than just Tenderloin https://www.thegubbioproject.org/

  • Who needs grandma's love and attention when an artificial surrogate can consume it and dump it all into an aggregated user profile of grandma instead? /s

Meanwhile, my late grandmother was the kind of woman who would notice the television distracting from a conversation, turn it off, and say "tv dominates the room." I miss her a lot.

Plus AI can't eat grandma's peach cobbler a la mode.

  • 100% agree. I was recently thinking about the Two Minutes Hate and how polarized our politics are these days.

In re-directing the members' subconscious feelings away from the Party's governance of Oceania and toward non-existent external enemies, the Party minimises thoughtcrime and the consequent subversive behaviours of thoughtcriminals.

    Wag The Dog.

  • "Enhanced" bitrate? I've heard of high bitrates, and I've heard of low bit rates, but I ain't never heard of no enhanced bitrates. Does Google know something we don't, or do they think we're suckers? (Rhetorical question, don't answer.)

  • When a city holds a Trump rally and then he doesn't pay, that is the city government misappropriating tax revenue and directing it to their preferred candidate. It is not the city residents being dumb, it is the city government being corrupt.

  • He's 8. He loves destruction, so this is a great game for him. The puzzles got to be a bit challenging after 5-10 levels, but there's a sandbox mode that he loves goofing off in.

Also he loves that all the vehicles function.

  • This would be easy with ssh -D 8000 remotehost. I actually do exactly this every day, but not from a Pi, and with a bunch of -L forwards too.

Configure your browser to use 127.0.0.1:8000 as a socks 5 proxy and voila.

Bonus points for having a proxy.pac file with more advanced proxy configuration logic.
