  • I did, and I know it's all respiratory. I was mostly responding to the implication in the first comment that it's all COVID. I got the newest COVID booster and a flu shot about a month before I got sick, so I'm leaning towards RSV for me personally. 0/10 would absolutely not recommend.

  • Interestingly, I don't know that it's COVID. I'm in CO and pretty much everyone I know, including me, has been sick recently, and we all tested negative for COVID. Could be a spicy new variant, but we all also had incredibly painful sore throats, which I never had the couple of times I had the rona.

Anyway, not saying it's not, but I think we've all kind of forgotten other illnesses still exist.

  • My friend's fiance was like that. I thought she should've canceled the wedding after the way he acted during her bachelorette party. He insisted it be a joint event with the bachelor party and then picked fights over everything she did. He called her a slut in front of everyone (meanwhile, she found condoms - which they didn't use - in his bag a few days earlier) and was generally a complete asshat. I would've been thrilled to see that notification.

  • The first thing I did when I saw the thumbnail was google pictures of her to see if her makeup is always that bad. Turns out, it's almost never good, but this is a particularly bad look. Whoever does her makeup (maybe her) is doing so many things that make her look like a cartoon witch, which is kind of hilarious tbh, since she sucks.

  • I have trash taste, so I actually just continue to rewatch the same dumb shit I liked in the 90s so I don't have to make a decision. I actually paid real money to buy Not Another Teen Movie a few years back because I rewatch it about once a year. I think we have too many options and they're all on different services so it's like fuck it, Men In Black for the 85th time.

  • Honestly, the best Chinese food comes from places where you can see the whole kitchen, everything is a little covered in grease, and there are boxes of supplies in the hall. If the place is too clean and organized, the food is probably just ok. I found my first holy grail at my first real adult job and mourned it for years when I left and then about a year ago I found the second and I'm pretty sure I'm singlehandedly responsible for about half their business.

  • The government does issue passports in people's preferred gender. They got rid of the requirement to have any kind of medical documentation a few years ago. Maybe he's trying to stop that, along with being a total fuckin douche in general.

  • A few years back, I found my old ThinkPad that I bought used in about 2000 and it still worked, homemade Hayden Christensen background and all. I was so upset by evidence of 16 year old me being horny for Anakin that I almost threw it against the wall, but it probably still would've worked.

  • Someone I know is a libertarian and when I asked how stuff like road maintenance would work on his ideal society, and he was like, "well everyone would pitch in to pay a company to do it." Ok, so what if someone refuses, are there any mechanisms to penalize them? And who chooses the company and signs the contract and schedules the work? You guys gonna vote for people to do those things? Congrats, you just created government. He also had no real response to what happens if one neighborhood is full of good people willing to pitch in, and the next one says fuck it, we're not doing any of that, so the roads are great for a mile and are undrivable the next mile.

So yeah, sounds a lot like what your parents are dealing with. Paradise!

  • Both of my parents are/were notorious for leaving roughly 655489357 tabs open at a time. I get stressed if I have more than a couple at a time. We're boomers/a millennial, respectively. But it could also be a result of my severe anxiety. Who knows?

  • I have a decent amount of older family heirlooms, but the oldest thing that was only ever mine is probably my first passport. I was maybe 4 months old when I got it, and it definitely has the most/coolest stamps of all of the passports I've ever had. Of course I don't remember any of it, but I keep it in the hopes that someday one of my adult books will measure up.

  • The Amish have this reputation for being nice people who are just a little old timey, but their insular communities hide a multitude of horrible things. Women and children are routinely abused, physically and sexually, animal abuse is rampant, it's just awful but people just see their nice furniture and barns and shit. Turns out, separating yourself from society and not having access to technology (oh, except the men who do have cell phones some of the time) is a great way do hide a lot of things and to keep members of the community from reporting it.

  • I guess, but people who run puppy mills are generally pretty awful people, so I can't feel bad about them getting screwed over for a relatively small amount of money. I had a rescue who was used as a stud in a puppy mill for his first 7 years and seeing the condition he was in when we got him and the amount of work it took to get him to feel safe, I just do not care what happens to the people who run them. They should all be shut down, have all of their animals confiscated, and have to pay every dime they've ever made off dogs to animal rescues. A bad check is like, the smallest possible amount of karma.

  • I think I would be less dismissive if it wasn't coming from the kind of clowns that opposed pretty much all the public health efforts to reduce the spread of covid. This isn't about health for them, this is about posturing.
