  • Maybe. Keeps me sane.

I'll say that Trump is providing an opportunity if we can grab it. There was a big liberal world order where it was hard to replace systems that were some combination of outdated and/or cruel, because what they do was too important. A bunch of those have been tossed in a woodchipper already, and Trump ain't done yet. If we can rebuild an effective left wing movement that takes real power, then we have an easier path to remaking those systems in a way that benefits a greater number of people.

  • You don't need a very long blurb for that. A short paragraph would do fine. Tons of cookbooks have figured this out.

You have a long blog post because Google's SEO favors that, and that's tied into advertising.

  • I wonder if the brain drain from the US will ultimately get us there faster. The EU has less cultural stigma about funding STI vax research, and now they're going to get the people who can do it.

  • Even with an adblock and the best privacy controls available, you cannot escape the effects of advertising. Article headlines will still be clickbait. Online recipes will still have long, unnecessary stories at the start. Companies will still want your email for trivial things so they can spam you. There are a hundred ways that advertising affects culture, and it's not something that can change based on individual effort.

  • Police were never defunded. Some cities facing a budget crisis cut a few percent from police budgets. Often, it was a lot less than they cut from libraries, parks, etc. This has nothing to do with anything BLM wanted.

  • The idea behind it is that post-2008, low interest rates let the rich run wild buying up real estate and stocks.

I don't really buy it, though. Trump isn't that smart, and nobody was really asking for tariffs that are so strong across the board. Even Project 2025 is split on the issue, and what support it does give for them is much more targeted.

This is Trump's bad idea all on his own.
