I remember an Apple fanboy arguing that this made things better!

When you use a hotspot from your phone the site/peers/whatever sees an IP that your ISP has assigned to you and could share that with authorities etc.

When you use a WiFi they see an IP assigned to the owner of the WiFi.

Security wise its easier for others in the WiFi to try and fuck with your computer since you are on the same LAN.

So it depends on what you fear the most.

You don't have to deal with digital ownership bullshit with existing physical media because some people broke the DRM.

The worst development for end users would be a normalization of physical media and new or ("updated") physical formats and players.

With brand new DRM and more tightly controlled playback devices.

It probably referred to MAC addresses being reused on WiFi. However the frames used are not Ethernet frames.

Ethernet however is not restricted to twisted pair cat cables it's on fiber and originally was on co-axial.

Ethernet over WiFi is WiFi. Ethernet is a protocol not the cables and its used with wired networks and WiFi.

Most of these concern seem to be about AGI which we are nowhere close to having and have no clear path to. Our "AI"s not only do not understand causality but don't have the ability to perform arithmetic. Nor do they run stuff that could kill humans. Except if you consider Tesla's FSD an AI system, but Musk assured us back in 2017 it would be safe..

For people to try and effectively respond to those issues they must be able to communicate privately with no fear of retribution.

It also requires private and secure communications to be a normal thing and not an indicator that the parties involved are criminals, terrorists or pedos.

Ai by the way is going to be just a little fart compared to the other issues you described as well as the lack of privacy.

Also a problem related to privacy is our growing dependence on private corps to be a 'normal' person ("why you don't have a Facebook/Google/Amazon/etc account ?")

If you are wondering why Israel is wrong and Palestinians in the right despite both sides' soldiers (and "soldiers") committing war crimes, it's because Israel created this situation by occupying Palestine and trying to ethnically cleanse it.

People in the West are way naive and sheltered from the realities of war, in part due to propaganda and how western war efforts have been portrayed as unrealistically "clean" and sanitized.
