  • As a resident of the Boston metro area, I wholeheartedly agree.

  • I broke the cycle when I quit Reddit but Lemmy is starting to keep me up until midnight again.

  • I went to probably every store in Akihabara hahahah. Super Potato is the most iconic chain, not sure what part of Japan you are in.

  • Oh man, I loved game hunting in Japan. If you haven't, I'd recommend grabbing some Japan exclusive physicals like Super Robot Wars series, Okami, Final Fantasy & Ace Attorney. There are also a lot of Limited Run releases that have a Japanese/Asia region physical that are tens to hundreds of dollars less than the North American versions.

  • Financial stability does wonders for the mental state. That and quitting booze which is a heavy factor in the lack of financial stability.

  • Exactly! It's so much more engaging to learn all of these things organically as you catch up with someone. I still have Insta but am using it less and instead, sharing photos with my friends directly.

  • Applebee's 2 for $20 is NOT a date!

  • Damn, I envy you for getting to experience them for the first time! I didn't start until PlayStation 2 era so I'm in a more backwards order- did 7/10, 8, Tactics, 9, 12, 15, 7R before going back to 4 on PSP in 2020 and then Crisis Core & 16 earlier this year.

I have the GBA port of 1 & 2 but got bored at some point through 1. Also played maybe half of 13 when it was released according to Xbox achievements. I remember liking it actually but was a huge pothead at the time so my memory is a bit fuzzy. Have a strange nostalgia for it though so I plan on going back soon.

  • Dislike it if ya dislike it!

  • Interestingly- I've found a few people not only think that there won't be a new control scheme, they actually hope that they don't add one. To their point, I guess the game would fall apart navigating the exact same environments with more responsive controls.

  • Yeah! By "finally," I mean that it's living up to the 30 years of hype haha. I'm playing the pixel remaster on Switch so it has actual vocals and HD-2D art style for the Opera scene. Definitely helps promote the stage play presentation and I enjoyed both versions when I watched the original SNES scene afterward.

FWIW I "liked" IV but was overall disappointed with it when I played it back in 2020 (my first FFs were 7 & 10 when I got my PS2 in 2001). Having a much different experience now with VI.

  • About halfway through my first ever playthrough of Final Fantasy VI. All I can say is "Finally."

  • Right on! I have a hacked PSP with a similar memory card solution. It'd be nice to upgrade since I've always been a fan of the form factor.

  • Interesting- I skipped Vita and not sure how to jump in on collecting for it due to the proprietary storage. Vita TV is only ~$150 atm though 🤔

  • Highly recommend 13 Sentinels if you're a fan of visual novels. Simply beautiful with great music and characters. If you're not a fan of VNs though, the RTS gameplay is so minimal that I wouldn't bother. It's well-designed and enjoyable but barely 10% of the runtime.

  • "Work family?" You mean like the Manson Family?

  • Yeah it'd be great if they gave us the updated versions like they did with the BioShock remasters when those came out. That said, I'll probably still pick these up for the updated controls.
