  • Surely there will be some delay but not that much, for most updates the fixes are transplanted directly to the downstream project making the patches coming very fast, almost as fast as the original project

  • Understand your point of view but in fact the 2 problems you mentioned are mainly not problems :

1 - Updates? The main downstream browsers received updates the same time as Firefox the same day and sometime the same hour

2 - Benefits? The benefits are mainly under the hood, removing Mozilla telemetry and annoying features (account, pocket...) AND the biggest advantages are the gain in term of privacy due the increase of anti fingerprinting methods

  • Hello ChatControl 👋

Seriously again a ridiculous law... This is a pure non-sense, in theory you should be afraid, in the reality such a law wouldn't be applied by Signal for example, and you would find alternative to these backdoored apps, such as SimpleX or others... BUT we need to fight against it, it's a big no go for future privacy! Keep fighting and fuck these guys!

Note : Even if Tuta is concerned it wouldn't change much... Today gmail is more than 70% of emails so in this case the privacy is equal to 0. Email is not secured at the foundation and with google in the equation, it's hard to fight against

  • Legally they have to, but in reality they almost don't have really the right to hold and collect them so it would be impossible to remove data from them AND even they said they have removed it.. Who can prove that it is true?

  • If you don't want to use internet the only ways are to use radio or deploy your own network infrastructure (optic fiber or cell tower), so there's no really any messaging app that can be used without internet. Briar can use Bluetooth but with a limited range, needing an actual dense mesh network.

  • Without any kind of software behind GUI this is almost useless and I think that CLI (or even TUI) are today so underrated that we should give more and more power to them instead of GUI
