He currently really likes locally copying people’s games from Scratch and modifying them in funny ways which he calls ‘hacking’ lol. He’s having fun so I’m happy for him to do what he likes so long as it’s age appropriate.

Your Mac has "recovery mode" in the firmware, it will often boot into recovery automatically if there's something wrong with your boot disk

Thanks for the ‘more realistic’ intro to dev. I will be showing him CLI. And I think these are good steps. First though I want to give him the opportunity to learn the ‘thinking/design/problem-solving’ element of programming.

I can teach him a bit of CLI / Shell and I’m ok if he bricks the computer, hence the choice of OS. Super easy for me to nuke and start again.

Mint Cinnamon was very straightforward for (a not very technical) me on a 2016 MacBook Air v7! Dual boot was a tiny bit trickier, but it’s given an old machine a new lease of life. Highly recommend.

It all just horrible, any which way you slice it. Gut wrenching.

I read just now on the BBC that most of the casualties were due not to gunfire, as all the posts suggest, but to the aid Lorries driving over people in what seems like scenes of chaos and probable panic… and this is from a news outlet that leans to the left.

I’m not pro Hamas or IDF but I feel like (deserved or not), if what the Beeb say is true, then we’re allowing ourselves to get carried away here.

I will for sure. I’m having to play catchup as my lad is super interested in all this and I’m having to quickly get up to speed to understand how best to support it, hopefully there’ll be enough crossover between the different environments that means that as he learns, I do to, in a way that’s useful.

So I demonstrated both Pop and Mint live usb options to my son and he said he wanted Mint as it ‘looks more serious’ and now I’m wondering how the hell I install Mint as dual boot on an ‘06 MacBook Air.

Is there a ‘more serious’ UI for Pop than the default or do I just let him do his thing and investigate Pop on my own?

It’s probably also because I’ve misused the meme format, as the meme implies a choice from your POV.
