  • It's not an argument, I'm asking in good faith if my current viewpoint is correct. I'm reading your reworking of my words and I don't actually see a problem with it. Abormality just means a difference with a much lower chance than normal. I think this actually proves what I'm trying to say because I don't think anyone legitimately believes there's anything wrong with people who have read hair.

Again it seems to be the word that's chosen that causes a bad reaction. If I say being a redhead is a genetic deficiency then I'm implying it's a bad or unwanted trait (which it is not) similar to the word "illness". However if I say it's a genetic abnormality, I don't think that has any negative connotations because it is a difference, as you say, but one not seen as often as any other differences.

Again, I can't prove to you that I'm approaching this in good faith, the downvotes seem to say most people above I'm not, but I am just trying to understand if it's the words we're using that people take offense to, or the actual meaning behind them is wrong.

  • Question, and this may not be the perfect place for this, but is it the phrasing that LGBTQ is a mental "illness" that's the problem here, or that it's a mental attribute at all?

I'm an LGBT supporter, so I'm not coming at this from a place of malice, I suppose it's curiosity and ignorance. Don't we basically understand that the way we function as humans is all a part of our brain chemistry, and that certain deviations from the norm cause things like ADD, homosexuality, musical creativity, etc etc?

The word illness seems way too strong, as we as a society have decided we don't have anything against that personal trait/lifestyle/whatever, but as far as natural occurrences goes homosexuality must be considered a mental abnormality, no?

Again I don't want to get caught up in feelings here, because I think people will hear that and take offence to it since no one wants to be "abnormal" but that is the concensus is it not?

  • Thank you for the correction. I know the properties of the refrigerant are important, but you're correct that the other side of the equation is how much it's compressed. If it's true that compression plays a larger part than the refrigerant at working in lower temperatures, then that does explain why we wouldnt see them in cars. The rise in cost for both the compressor and higher energy usage could make them less appealing to manufacturers.

  • The Thunder client is a godsend for Lemmy, I'm so happy with the work that developer has done. I feel like I'm still back on Reddit using Relay in the compact view.

For any of these alternatives to succeed mobile apps have to exist, and I doubt all the devs that popped up to make Lemmy apps want to retool yet again for a different platform.

  • Like I said, complete delusion. I'm not some empty headed, cable news watching, USA can do no wrong simpleton. I can see the propaganda that the US puts out and how they meddle in foreign affairs. I also see the propaganda Russia puts out, and you are guzzling it.

There's no point in continuing this, I won't reply again to a tankie troll.

  • I don't have to play any of your games or answer your new question. We can start and end with your statement that Russia didn't start the war in Ukraine. This isn't some long forgotten detail of the past, it's recent and the whole world watched Russia invade Ukraine. To refute that is delusional and there's no point in talking further.

  • I think the main takeaway here is that you recognize washing is the appropriate thing to do, but are OK with a temporary wipe until your next shower. People are saying with a bidet you don't have to wait, you use wash each time.

I agree it's gone off the rails and I'm partly to blame. I just don't understand peoples reluctance to use bidets.

  • So far I've been flagging this guy and others as Tankies so I can quickly ignore them. My reasoning originally was that maybe they'd have something useful to say in other topics so it was better than blocking and not seeing anything at all. At least I would know they're here and not get out of touch.

I'm really questioning this stance now though. They never have anything good to say and are so obviously propagandists. What are you guys doing?

  • There are, but then I think you'd have problems with the effective rang of the AC in the summer. To my knowledge this is all about at what temperature the coolant is a liquid and when it's a gas (because that's how you exchange heat).

A traditional AC only needs coolant that does this at summer temperatures. A heat pump tries to use one that will work at colder temperatures as well. A cold weather heat pump goes even further but I think there is a sacrifice in AC efficiency in the summer.

Somone please correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm not sure if a do-it-all extreme cold and extreme hot heat pump exists, and as a car manufacturer you want to put in the one that will fit most cases, as opposed to a house which only needs to operate in the range of the climate it is built in.

  • I totally agree. I want the touch pads so I can play old games that were designed for a keyboard and mouse or a shooter that works better with them. Younger gamers aren't going to want to tinker getting an old game to run and are likely to have been brought up on a controller and don't see it as a hinderance.

That's why I love the Steam Deck, it was built for all the nerds out there and it's fabulous.

  • I won't consider these new devices because they don't have touch pads, but if inwas gifted one or had a friend that had one I would definitely recommend Bazzite if they don't play many multiplayer titles.

Great to see it taking off.

  • Yeah, at this point it seems the arrangement is that he pays for her studies and lodging in return for doing all the housework.

Whether that's a good deal or not is up to her. I can't see it helping their relationship, but he doesn't sound great in that department anyway.

  • I find these comment sections really helpful because the tankies expose themselves and I can easily add tags to their profile. Makes it much easier to spot their manipulation when they try to blend in on other topics.

  • These are so far apart though. Future tech in a movie from 2009 (where we already had LCDs and iPhones) compared to TNG in 1987.

Even if they could have been even more forward thinking in their design, they wouldn't have been able to film I back then. LCARS was just backlit scribs with some CRT displays undreneath in areas that needed to animate. You couldn't CG it then and have it look believable.

  • Exactly. They'll be spending countless hours sitting in it, so does it look to the office chair for an ergonomic design and spiff it up a bit? No, how about a stiff race car seat that hugs you through all those turns you'll be taking... that makes sense.

  • Gamers have become total suckers as well, and on the whole are not very good with their money. From always pre-ordering to season passes to oceans of memorabilia.

Hardware has especially suffered. There used to be a time when gaming attracted technical people and there were brilliant forums and in depth review sites for hardware. Now most of those are dead with only a couple good ones left because everyone figured out you can just slap RGB lights on your product and call it a day. Gamers will buy it.

Prices go up and up, quality goes down, control over the product goes down, improvements per generation go down. But man there's never been more flashy marketing and lights.
