  • That is indeed the case. I'm not sure how well it works on day one but it is in principle doable and making micro blogs news aggregators and blogs work well together is something we can and should work on

  • Reading about NAT Traversal and all that nonsense makes me want to start out my own ISP and we just configure things to be good because the corporate assholes clearly haven't. Imagine how much better things could be if hosting stuff from your home internet connection was just a thing you could do with no drama

  • This is true. I like being able to talk to people on the internet down hopefully make a friend somewhere along the way. The fact that this is still hard is something we really need to work on. I've just never really felt the need for a personal website, I'm not into blogging or I can probably already have one. I just don't write enough of that level of substance to build myself a Blog of any sort and I'm not really interested in the attention that publishing seems to imply. I like things a bit more casual.

  • IRC has always been kinda clunky. I've never been able to get into using it and it's always a pain when I find myself having to. Thankfully chat infrastructure is advancing but it's been a step by step process. Making E2EE work right is still not smooth or a guaranteed feature

  • Honestly I don't think many people are naive they just went to where everyone else went en mass after musk. There's no advantage besides userbase size at the moment and arguably some fedi servers have BSky beat on features already

  • When the other side is doing stuff like Mass deportation ASMR videos you're past the point where it's a reasonable debate about the exact level of income tax or whatever. Actual cartoon villains wouldn't dare behave this badly

  • The problem is most people don't ever have that time because they're too busy working multiple jobs to pay your slave rents and what time they do have between that is take it up by house chores. I wish I had the time and energy to do a hobby, or the money which is also frequently an issue for anything I'd like to do. No seriously if I had money and energy and time I'd be doing a half dozen different creative Hobbies

  • I don't think we use defamation lawsuits and politics enough. Look at how much good Dominion did by filing one. People who are lied about by fascists should sue them in every instance, expose their lies in court, and collect lots of money off of them. If we had done this earlier we could have stopped fascism entirely by this method, and maybe too late to do this but it's probably not useless

  • Pretty much. I think a lot of the anger over phones is that it makes it real obvious when someone doesn't care what you're saying. You're right that you used to look out into the classroom and couldn't really tell who was focusing or zoned out

As someone who is young but old enough to remember when boredom was a thing let me tell you boredom sucked. There wasn't really anything to it worth keeping. Yeah sometimes I go for a walk and have a think but that's intentional. Being bored when you're stuck in line or something is just painful and has no redeeming qualities
