If you're thinking about going this option, there is one more point to consider. I've read that if you get the Xiaoxin Pad 2022 with the Global Rom installed, it's simply the rom from the M10 Gen3, so you lose the Netflix certification and Dolby Vision stuff, plus it no longer can receive OTA updates.

With ours, I asked for the tablets "sealed box" condition with the Chinese ROM, you can switch it to English during the initial setup and you can sideload Google Play Store if you know how. They recently got the OTA update to Android 13, and the experience overall is pretty great for a cheap tablet. My kids usually just watch YouTube and Netflix on them, and play some small kids games.

I use one pack of seafood tom yum flavoured ramen, and one pack of Mi Goreng, cook them together in the microwave for three minutes, and add the tin of tuna for the last minute. Cook for a bit longer if you want some crispy bits in your noodles.

They are affordable within your budget. You can buy them from china from AliExpress, and you can ask the seller for the Global Rom installed, that has english language and Play store enabled.

They are a popular kids tablet in China, used in schools and such, they have lots of good protective cases available online. Cases for the M10 Gen3 also fit.

This is the same as how I am. People know I'm "the Linux guy", but I don't preach it. I don't try to get friends and family to switch operating systems. That's like trying to get someone to switch to your favourite brand of underpants. The whole ethos behind Linux is the freedom of choice. If someone wants to learn more about it, I'm happy to point them to helpful resources, but they need to make the decision on their own, and choose for themselves. I won't install it for them, because I don't want to deal with the "where are all my pictures are gone?", or "why doesnt my scanner work anymore?"

What VSCode uses is a super cut down and highly optimised version of electron, designed specifically to run a code editor. It's still not as good as real native code, but a lot of people are willing to put up with it because the plugins available for VSCode are pretty good.

Every single file on my computer is saved under ~/Downloads why would I want to sort it somewhere else when I already know exactly where it is?

The only good thing to come from this new editor so far is the frank statement by the original Atom Developers (who invented Electron, just to run Atom) admitted that Electron is not a good solution for a code editor, because who in the heck wants to edit their code in a web browser anyway.

Now we just need to convince the devs of Keybase and Obsidian the same.

I can see what you mean, and I get your argument, but personally I still feel that horizontal scrolling suits this kind of desktop navigation better.
