  • Well, apart from that you can also make other mistakes like eating mushrooms undercooked or eating too old specimens leading to a food poisoning. Also, there are mushrooms that are quite edible for a long time but can cause organ failure and lead to death after many years.

Anyways, it seems like a really bad idea to let an AI decide what of all of this information is important and how to communicate it.

  • Did you read the whole article including the "flame bait"? The author gives an example there of someone committing suicide because an AI encouraged them...

  • Yeah, I feel now it is out that he is a narcissist and it just feels so obvious. He is gaslighting everyone and people try to clean up after him, that's just symptomatic. He won't change, he will maybe get managed better by the people around him to reduce the damage. But there isn't anything else to hope for.

  • You can summarize that in just simply saying: capitalism is the problem. Just with anything else, capitalism doesn't care to give us the best entertainment, it simply will benefit the ones with the most profit. So long we live under capitalism, this will be the underlying problem. Capitalism doesn't care about what people want or need.

  • I think the weird thing in this article was that they framed it to be a universally girl or boy internet. Probably an effect of the cishet privilege to always be the default option. And I can imagine that 'normal' people actually do get a more of an default experience divided into binary genders. A bit like people who just use whatever OS that is on their computer (Windows or macOS) and don't use an adblocker...

  • Nice recommendations, thanks :)

  • Bandcamp is really my favorite site to buy or download music. I love just what you said about it, that I can prioritize what I want to pay for :)

  • Second this. KDEconnect is running on all of my devices. It is really great on the steam deck if you don't have a keyboard because you can just send the clipboard from your phone. Super handy!

  • Ah OK, interesting! Well, if you have access to a family subscription this seems like the way to go :)

I mostly use bandcamp + yt-dl to get music (or I actually buy it as well). But it is a bit tedious to import the files into my library...

  • Are they ethical though? (Serious question as I'm uninformed)

Both are directly tracking what you watch/read so I would worry that they might sell this data to others.

  • Well, then you could just use xManager to get pirated Spotify premium. It just doesn't let you download stuff but if you pirate them separately anyways, then this should work for you. Or are you literally directly ripping the music from Spotify??

  • You mean I was scolding you because of the use of an angry emoji? Sorry, I meant to be angry at the use of the word not against you personally. And I did add something to the debate, namely the discussion about what words we use and how people may feel about them. Also, see the link in my previous reply.

ETA: I still have the feeling you are overly defensive for being criticized for using a derogatory expression. If you mean to tell me I should have done it in a nicer manner, than this is called tone policing, i.e. criticizing someone for how they express their critique instead of replying to the content if their critique and thus evading discussion of their own behavior.

  • English isn't my first language either. Also, I'm autistic, so yes, I object to being told I had a disease. Although I didn't even feel offended because I commented in good faith just trying to clarify.

Independent of this, if you choose to talk about marginalized groups of people you should at least consider what are slurs or discriminatory/pathologizing phrases and avoid them. This way you seem just too lazy to even try.

  • I know you are not searching for an alternative to cantata, but I really really like Clementine (and its fork Strawberry) and have been using it for years. Maybe worth a try but you probably already know it, right?

  • I agree, except for cases where the person saying the word is of the minority group itself. As an autistic individual I do find it funny to sometimes say that something is my autistic side, but I also get the joke and don't make fun of autistic people.

Contrapoints' video on dark humor may be relevant here

  • Maybe just give it a try? It's pretty fun to test on an older machine and it is pretty easy to learn the basics of Linux. And if you are interested, it is a great rabbit-hole to get drawn into ;)
