Do you always succumb to the need to publicly police people? The other person just voiced what I thought as well, that knowledge definitely isn't forever. Why not comment on the fallacy contained in the meme?
Unrelated to your comment, but what is your favorite bird in the Paridea family? My ex girlfriend gifted me a shirt that reads "I love tits" with various species depicted :)
Hm, for a good peer-review process you would still need a way to anonymously distribute to experts in the same field and orchestrate the whole review/editing process. You could obviously try to come up with a better review process but I don't know how you would do it on a git-platform. How would you prevent trolling or other forms of destructive comments for example? How would you ensure that other people in the field can comment without having to fear repercussions for an honest and negative review.
Living in a society is not the same thing as one specific set of rules to play by. The author isn't saying that we shouldn't be coordinating or discussing with each other. As I understand it, they are arguing against valuing people based on their social capital instead of their actual knowledge. Because what is science's worth if it isn't based on knowledge but how well you can lick boots? How often is science inhibited by some old dude abusing his power until he dies. Science progresses one funeral at a time. Does it necessarily have to be that way or could we possibly find a better way to organize ourselves?
So you are apparently a time traveler from the past who still uses "bitches" to refer to women. A quick update, in this time and age this is considered sexist and you might want to get up to date with other expressions as well
The two mentioned species are pretty easy to distinguish once you get familiar with them (based on gills, spores and the stem base). But I would never rely on an app to make the decision for me! If you exclusively go for easier groups where there are no life threatening species in your area (boletes where I life), you should be pretty safe.
Our city (in Germany) gave us shit a few times, but it was because of our hedge growing onto the street. At a certain point I get it, you are responsible for your plants and if they obstruct traffic etc. Another hypothetical scenario would be where you have a bunch of invasive plants that the city tries to eradicate? But if they just complain about the aesthetics it is really pathetic...
The meme doesn't say that grass isn't native, but that they want to replace it with native plants. I do get your point though, it sounds like it excludes grass. According to Wiki, Lolium perenne (hugely cultivated grass worldwide) "is native to Europe, Asia and northern Africa". I think why people explicitly say that they want to replace their lawn with native plants is because less knowledgeable people might go with introduced and widely cultivated species. This would not be as effective in bringing back wildlife. Introduced plants are often not great host plants for pollinators for example. So it is great when people specifically replace their lawn with plants that are native to their region.
Haha thanks
