  • I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted because your argument is right. Apple has a rather small number of hardware devices to support. That makes long term support a lot easier.

    Edit: I mostly disagree with your previous argument though. Planned obsolescence is alive and thriving. I've seen so many PCB layouts where heat sensitive parts were placed right next to heat emitting ones that I cannot believe this is by accident.

  • I'm really not sure if I would name any stock Android in that list. There's not much "libre" about it. Compared to Apple, sure, but that's a ridiculously low bar. We're still missing good alternatives for mobile phones.

  • That's true. And that's the reason why you'll get one or two firmware/driver updates and that's it. These companies have work to do on the other hand. A laptos or desktop is a widespread product. Valve had to go a long way to make the Deck happen.

  • I don't like any of them. But from what I see, Android is the first one to make that feature in a way that it's compatible with non-Android devices. That's what the U in USB was meant for. The Apple version probably only works with other Apple devices, I guess.
