  • Greater than 45 days. They're afraid McCarthy would get enough not-insane republicans to cross the aisle, so they had to get rid of him before he could pass a more permanent spending bill.

They want to use every fiscal discussion as a hostage negotiation.

  • Exactly. No speaker means the house grinds to a halt yet again. Which is exactly what they want - minimum attention while they lie, cheat, and steal their way into positions of authority for their next coup attempt.

  • Not really. He's the "first among equals" as the bishop of Rome. While this translates into a lot of power, he can't actually just make pronouncements.

Doctrine and catechism take decades to change and catch up, and any pope is largely along for that ride. This pope is using his social influence as much as possible to increase acceptance, which is why I appreciate him.

Much more than this and he will likely be assassinated. It's not super uncommon historically, and often because a pope did things a strong faction within the cardinals/bishops didn't like.

  • The whole church can fuck off. But this pope is alright. This is in response to some cardinals asking him to reaffirm the church's stance on gay people. If this is what he chose to do instead, I hope he needs it up.

  • Alan Moore, who wrote Watchmen, was trying to make this point through his media, but he also explicitly stated it in interviews. He was like, "Y'all do realize that superhero stuff is fascist power fantasy, right? You shouldn't like this stuff as an adult."

  • Yes. They withhold taxes, and at that point it's all in the highest bracket, and you haven't had the cash to get a bunch of credits and deductions.

Some lotteries offer an annuity style payout, over 20 years. This can reduce the tax implications over the whole life, but inflation and not having the money invested can eat it up.

It's a trade off that would be great to have to worry about.

  • They created a budget. They allocated money to shit. They all voted and it got approved.

Now they have to authorize payment of the thing they already said they'd pay for. It's fucking asinine.

Is that less of a talking point for you? They lie, cheat, and steal to get crap cut in the original budget negotiations, and then they refuse to pay the bill until democrats agree to ridiculous hostage demands.

  • The government shutting down isn't for a reason. It's not a budgeting mechanism. It's literally just Republicans, yet again, refusing to authorize payment for the programs they already authorized.

They do this repeatedly and regularly to force additional concessions on programs they don't like. It's got nothing to do with money and everything to do with social control.

  • Doubtful. Industrial agriculture is applying the same nutrients, but to the dirt. A large portion doesn't make it to the roots, and instead gets swept up and runs off into the water system.

Versus hydroponics, where the nutrients are added directly to the water which is applied directly to the roots and cycles back through the system repeatedly.

If the soil grows plants can be grown without fertilizer, you might have a point. But we have historically low topsoil, and most of it is less good quality. To continue with traditional/industrial agriculture, we need to start implementing regenerative practices, and that would take decades of active management across the entire sector to make a big enough impact.

  • No one worked for Project Veritas without buying into their mission. According to their 2021 Form 990, they had 59 employees and spent north of 6m on salaries. James okeef was the highest paid at 396k.

These people were well compensated for years to do illegal and immoral things. Do not pity them. Save that energy for the people whose lives they've destroyed. They got Acorn shut down, which employed a bunch of people across a lot of communities doing actual good work.

  • The controversy comes days after it emerged that education officials had sent a threatening letter to the parents of a boy who had complained of being bullied by classmates for months, saying their public statements complaining about the bullying were “unacceptable” and urged them to adopt a “constructive” attitude.

The boy, identified as Nicolas, 15, later killed himself on 5 September in a Paris suburb, one day after pupils went back to school after the summer break.

Oh, got it. So they fucked up real bad and are now trying make this about the police response so no one will question why they helped a bully kill his target.

  • Exactly. You can't act like classrooms should be sacrosanct while simultaneously harassing other students. Makes no sense on its face.

Further, how likely is it that the harassment is only after school hours? If you can talk shit during the school day, you can take the consequences during the school day.

  • Either he means what he says and can endorse products, or he's mentally ill and we need to give him grace or whatever the fuck and he should seek help.

If he's unstable and we shouldn't believe what he says, why the fuck are you offering him deals?
