  • Then again, if you can get them to swarm and spend their energy on stupid shit that has no place to go, maybe they won't be backing up Trump while he's mired in legal cases.

The fewer of them available to run interference for him, the better.

Democrats in Congress would be right in providing ample distractions for their regressive colleagues right now.

  • I'm hoping it's a list of the people who taught him the ropes, whether they be donors or other elected officials.

The thing with crime families like the GOP is that once you crack one, others become available. It can be an avalanche.

I think they've controlled enough for long enough that they've been able to avoid those cracks. But the system is at a breaking point across the board, so I don't think the gravy train will last.

  • Every aspect of life demands 110% from us at all times.

We are all having to clean an entire house, cook every meal, pay huge mortgages or rents, pay loans, daycare costs, and insurance...for what? We've removed all economies of scale for ourselves, and made it to where it's easier to spend the cash to have someone else do it. They then get the economies of scale that we used to have when we lived with extended family and didn't have to pay for every basic service multiple times.

It's exhausting, and there's no slack left in the system. You can't cut back on much to make the rest float, because everything is the maximum cost it can be for even the shitty versions, and prices on everything go up continually with no real raises available for the vast majority.

We are one major catastrophe away from huge swaths of our population becoming migrant refugees to other states.

We've removed all redundancy and forgot that it's synonym is resiliency. We are absolutely fucked, it's just a matter of counting the time before the house of cards collapses.

  • I responded to this:

The world has almost 8 billion people. Maybe we could do with a few less.

Which is vague. And vagueness is often used to give plausible deniability when eugenicists are on the march. So cool on you for giving such grace to an internet stranger, but when I read things like this, it always includes what is between the lines.

  • I think that having cogent statements about a thing he was well prepared for is not mutually exclusive with being an addled idiot in other areas of his life.

He's had too much koolade and thought he could get away with more and more based on the force of his personality. We are watching it bite him in the ass in real time.

  • Sure, burn pits and other crap will help.

But this kind of ammo, kids will find and hang on to. They bring it home, add it to their collection of other cool shit they've scavenged...and then their brothers and sisters are born with malformed limbs, mishaped heads, etc.

There have been a lot of stories written about it over the years. The one I read was specifically about Iraq I believe, but it was a while ago.

  • This. I can accept some fundamental truths underlying the ideas presented in religion, but I've only ever seen them corrupted to bludgeon people into obeying. Which is exactly the opposite of the intended message.

Either it's all fake, or it's being abused by evil people. Either way, I want no part in it

  • They're asking you why you felt the need to "both sides" this as if Biden and desantis aren't listening to experts/playing politics, while Biden is doing everything correctly. It's disingenuous to act like the one person who is doing the right thing also needs to work on doing better, while the other is actively making it worse and trying to blame everyone but himself.

  • Agree completely, but hear me out. It's politically difficult to ask ranchers and farmers to do anything. Like historically, a lot of our domestic policy centers around keeping them happy - the idea being that they are providing such a vital service that we don't want to mess with them much.

That's why Bundy thought he was going to get away with free grazing forever, and why huge swathes of homestead were granted a few hundred years ago - gotta get people turning dirt into food/money.

So even if this is primarily anti-foreign, it still provides a sorely needed example of legislation that could pass, and then the practice in bureaucracy needed to enforce it. It can be expanded. Let them pass this, and then lobby and advocate for adding groups to it in future legislative sessions.

  • Depends on the provider. As with all things, some people are just phoning it in, while other people are passionate about their work and want outcomes that reflect well on their abilities.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you've got more money than you really know what to do with, just remember: keep your personal and business finances completely separate, make sure that your financial advisor is a fee-based fiduciary (unless you know what you're getting into), and interview people while remembering that their active employment is an ongoing interview. You can drop a consultant or advisor any time, so don't feel like you owe them loyalty if they aren't delivering what you need.

  • It is not physically addictive. If your life sucks and you use it to cope, you'll be cranky when you stop, same as if you used trash TV to cope but your cable goes out.

You cannot overdose on pot. You can try, and the worst that will happen is that you'll fall asleep. It is not dangerous on its own.

Don't like the schedule 4 distinction? Fine, pick another. But having it set to schedule 1, same as heroin and PCP, is insane and 100% politically motivated.
