  • I'm nearly positive that the "I supported X until..." Comments are bot farms trying to normalize the second position. It has been happening a lot in the past 5-7 years or so.

  • This is a hard question.

Israel was magicked into existence not very long ago(1948), immediately started breaking agreements and compacts... Displaced millions of people from their homes and has killed thousands upon thousands more... Many innocents. It is run by an extremist religious military organization.

Hamas is a brutal, far right religious extremist movement that kills indiscriminately, even it's own people.

Objectively they are both in the wrong.

Israel has stolen and murdered the Palestinian land and people for decades while continuously lying about their intentions.

Hamas is a shit show of an organization that is probably objectively worse... But their actions make sense when you realize that their families and property have been stolen when murdered for the last several generations. The only life most Palestine people know is one of suffering and loss... And this is directly Israels fault.

In your Russia/Ukraine scenario, Israel is Russia (mostly foreign invaders) and Ukraine is Palestine(natives fighting for their land and freedom). But it's not quite as simple because Hamas is so objectively horrible...

  • Here is the rest of the story: the people who chose the subdomain chose .ml because they want it to mean marx-lenin... that's why it means that for them.

Generally you are right. In this specific instance it was chosen for the fascism.

  • Two of the top ten largest instances... something like a good 10-20% of Lemmy users are full on fascists with a hard on for making other people's lives miserable. You being ignorant of it doesn't make it untrue.

    1. it's a form of victim blaming. Example:

"I went to India and I was sexually assaulted on a bus." "THATS YOUR FAULT FOR NOT GOING TO THE 'GOOD' PARTS."

No. Fuck you. India has a rampant sexual assault problem.

Lemmy has rampant problems. To ignore them and say it's the visitors fault is such a fucking asshole position to take. If the first time you came to lemmy was when csam was being spammed and you were subjected to it... it 100% isn't your fault. If you make a comment on something that interests you from All and you don't see which community it is in and you get spammed with slurs and attacks for having a different opinion... it's not your fault.

    1. it's toxic as fuck and super passive aggressive.

"You don't know how to curate your experience. You aren't very good at it. You must have issues."

That's what people are saying. They hide behind the bullshit example you gave "what's wrong with selecting your interests." No. Fuck you.

  • Because it is? The term used to mean someone who is honest and upfront about things but toxic assholes co-opted the term as a way to excuse bad behavior.

It's used infrequently enough that it's not as obvious, but it's a huge red flag for someone to say "I'm a straight shooter".

  • To the people who say they don't run into jerks here or they don't understand when people say it's worse than reddit... what rose colored glasses are you wearing? Huge swaths of lemmy are little better than 4chan.

"Oh, you just have to curate your communities."

Stop. Take your superior than thou attitude and just stop. You are part of the problem.

  • You are making just such a weird argument and it sounds like you are retroactively trying to salvage a bad position because you made a mistake.

    1. If you care strongly about audio quality. A built-in doesn't have any quality guarantees... why then does usb vs hat matter?
    2. If quality is your concern why bring up price in the first part? It is blatantly obvious that cheap parts *might" equate to cheap quality. This is blatantly obvious.
    3. Obviously there will be USB solutions that are equal or better solutions than prebuilt rpi dac hats since the primary dac hats are exceptionally niche.

This response just sounds like you got caught out in your mistake/bad argument. Why be a dick about it?

  • What boomer bullshit is this?

Millennials and zoomers look for new jobs because businesses don't treat them as adults most of the time. I got told by a boss that "Millennials are too young to know the value of hard work." Bitch, I'm 35 years old. Companies don't offer reasonable salary increases or promotions.

Want to keep zoomers? Pay them commiserate with experience. Give them level/title bumps. Treat them like adults.

  • I hard disagree with this. Zoomers do not want their company in their personal lives.

I am a millennial and I do not want my company in my personal life.

    We are not a family.

Companies should provide opportunities for employees to bring their families to fun social engagements, if they want, only after the company has met all other employee requirements.

Having a group of people that like to work together is important, but trying to be a "life coach" is some boomer shit if I have ever heard any.

Edit: furthermore it is so disgustingly condescending. Just because you are a person's manager means nothing outside of work. Work mentor yes, "life coach"? Get that garbage out of your brain. I would immediately hate working for anyone who has this mentality.

Edit2: I cannot express how utterly terrible, condescending and offensive this thought process is. Fuck. I would go over your head or quit so fast. Jesus Christ this makes me irrationally angry. 💢

  • No. Not in the slightest. If you think that we should vote to defederate from csam before we defederate from csam you have something wrong with you. If you say "that's not what I mean." No. That's exactly what a democracy is.

Should we have a responsive, responsible team that makes decisions for us? Yes. Is it a democracy? Fuck no. Is it nice that they listen to their users wants and needs? Yes. Should their be transparency in the process? Yes.

  • I actually experience the opposite. Others have posted about it in this thread as well. If your views deviate slightly on some topics it's way worse here than on reddit. The Tech Bros / Open Source Stan's here are insufferable. There was a post yesterday that said it should be illegal for video games to not distribute their source code... And the opinion that companies should be able to own the thing they made was heavily downvoted and ridiculed.
