Sure, but I'm not aware of anywhere where property taxes would be so high that they would be higher than rent. That doesn't really make sense, landlords have to pay property tax so how are they making so much profit if it's higher than rent?

I view portability to be the main benefit of a hardware solution. I agree that software options will allow for better security, but imo a less secure hardware option is better than nothing if portability is a requirement.

I hope so, but after his rise to power I don't know what to think, I just know we can't get complacent. But I have no idea what the fuck the American people want so I have no idea if Harris would be seen as a good candidate by the non trump demographic.

If this means being able to own a house earlier in life then absolutely go for this. There's no greater theft of your ability to build wealth than rent.

The US collects about 5 trillion in revenue a year. This fucker wants a budget on the scale of the biggest revenue of a country on earth. That's more power than the president has. Fuck this guy. Nobody deserves that much trust.

The question is if your local government picked a 15 minute walk as a target for amenities, so the idea would be that they would do things to encourage that these things are within a 15 minute walk to all their residents. So saying yes would mean you want the government to step in to encourage there being a bar close to all residents. That sounds incredibly silly to me.

I drink alcohol but I rarely go to bars, so it's also not important to me.

AI will trivialize the day to day work of programming, the really hard part of programming is being able to put together complex systems in a maintainable way. It's really more of a project structure problem than it is a programming problem. Best way to future proof yourself is to focus on the higher level architectural challenges and putting together complex infrastructure as opposed to learning things like sorting algorithms (although I don't think interviewing has caught up with that yet). LLM powered systems may eventually get to the point where it can even replace architectural tasks, but at that point almost all office jobs will be obsolete.

EDIT: Another thought, getting out of tech now is like getting out of tech right before the Internet took off. Yes AI will replace a ton of jobs and there's going to be a big reckoning, but there's a shit ton of work to get these systems in place in a reliable way. The next Gen of AI is super capable, but it's also pretty jank, and getting it to work to it's capability will require a ton of work which provides a ton of opportunity to get in on companies that will become big when they do it well.

You think pushing the status quo is going to result in change? The sweet spot for the rich is to have everyone struggle while they enrich themselves, but not struggle so hard that it leads to an upheaval. We've tried patching up a broken system and it doesn't fix anything, it just slows the decline. I think an upheaval is the only answer, dunno when we'll hit the breaking point, but it will happen, it's inevitable. For the economy to fundamentally change it will require it becoming completely impossible to survive in the existing economy, otherwise nobody would want to risk a fundamental rethink of how things work.

That's basically what the article says but admitting that would make for a bad headline.
