  • Currency is a promise. It's a fiction we all agree to be a part of.
The constant argument by game lawyers that digital goods have value and therefore cloning them is theft, should reinforce this idea that, well, if your DLC and your games have value, then surely those virtual coins also have value. And we can precisely calculate that value, too. How can they argue in good faith that digital goods have value, then the opposite is true when they would have to shell out actual money?

Or can banks suddenly do that, too? Can you imagine if banks decide that no, actually, we are closing those branches and since your money was tied to them, you're out of luck, too bad. But we are opening new ones, don't worry, come again!

I think customers are fucking idiots for spending any amount thinking they ain't getting fucked, mind you. But clearly there is some serious fuckery going on. I hope Europe take the lead on that crap, sooner rather than later, since we seem to be tackling lootboxes...

  • I have definitely enjoyed their tactic of doing smaller Far Cry games to test out new ideas, both with settings and game systems. It's very incremental and nothing too crazy, at least for the game systems, but it is nice to see.

On the other hand this experimentation comes around a solid core of what I like to call the Übigame, with a huge expansive map choke full of points of interest, strong points to take over, larger zones to unlock through story beats, and great traversal options through it all, etc. I don't see much difference between the Far Cry, the AC series, revent Ghost Recon, etc. Pandora fits right in there, too, so much so I'm surprised it's not officially an FC game.

Point is : is this one going to be an Übigame or not?

  • Hahaha! Yeah exactly! And same for all the delicious varieties of 豆腐. Mostly she just gets crazy trying to remember all the Italian names, since we are in France. It's a fair point. It's just funny slagging her about it :)

  • Those colleagues are pretty much all quitting now, after their over time calculation has been modified because it was costing the company too much, while for other teams like mine it stayed the same. It's hilarious seeing the complete panic from the higher ups realizing how badly they fucked up. And I don't think they actually really realize...

  • Well that makes sense since marketing's only job is to build hype, hence expectations, so people buy the stuff. C.f. No Man's Sky and the resulting disappointment. Or Peter Molyneux's entire career (pretty much). If you make claims and build expectations then it should be no surprise that you end up being judged on those even more than actual, objectively viewed quality.

    Ie, talk shit, get shot.

  • Billion dollar company is motivated to install a branch in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, is surprised to discover a very well educated workforce, who performs well because they have protective labour laws. The local population gets great salaries (on par with city salaries), because otherwise the talent fuck off to the big cities. The salaries help the local businesses flourish. It's a win win situation, really.
It's what happened in Ireland, no reason Scotland couldn't do the same.

  • I agree with you about the artistic choice of going for something flatter and more reminiscent of the animated show. Or perhaps of Fortnite, because let's not kid ourselves, they are aiming for that crowd. But I actually do like that art style! YMMV.

  • A compounding factor is that (actual) Italian men are used to hard to get women, and their efforts are therefore scaled for such challenge. Never have I seen men try so fucking hard to chat up anything within sight than Italians.
I still vividly remember seeing a bunch of them moving through the nightclub crowd, chatting up women one after the other, failing, immediately moving on to the next one, etc.

(One could argue it's the other way around : Italian women have developed a resilience up to the challenge of the insatiable appetites and relentless advances of Italian men)

  • I didn't care much for them back then, but I sure as fuck tried to bed every single of the ladies that could be!
I'd be sad if there were not as many romance options as the original! At the very least, Shani is bound to be more developed, I guess. That would be nice. I wish they had recognized it a bit more in TW3, but I guess they had no way to recover that from the save files :/ (unlike what they did with some of your choices from TW2)

  • Better. Return true if the number is in a stored list of known primes, otherwise return false right away. But then, start a separate thread with an actual verification algorithm. When the verification is done, if it was actually a prime number, you just crash the program with a WasActuallyPrime exception.

  • «il suffit de traverser la rue!» (you just gotta walk across the street!) is the trendy joke in France since one of our elected morons uttered it.

I never really understood the whole "sending hundreds of resumes" thing, so I don't think it's quite the end of the world if you have any skills, but these people are demented, thinking it's that easy. Clearly never lost a job or known involuntary unemployment.
