  • It doesn't say anything about performance. But they now support Vulkan with Nouveau, so it can now be used even if OpenGL is not available or broken.

The blog post only me tioned that the driver now supports the GPUs, which I think should be believable, as the GPUs are listed as conformant on Khronos' website.

If you have had problems with a Wayland compositor when using Nouveau with one of the cards, it is possible that it might work now, if the compositor supports Vulkan.

Vulkan is normally faster than OpenGL, but I don't know much about the state of NVK & Nouveau's OpenGL driver for the cards. I just know the API versions they support and that NVK cannot reclock them if Nouveau can't, so I can't say anything about performance.

  • I haven't used nextcloud, but having /var on an actual disk might help, if nextcloud writes to it often. Even if it doesn't, it might still help a bit as a lot of software does, so it will still reduce the writes to the SD card.

You don't actually need much on your root partition. Only /etc, /bin, /lib & if it's separate, /sbin. Most distributions (inc. recent Debians, not sure which version rpi os uses) have symlinked /bin, /sbin & /lib with their /usr counterparts. This means that the binaries & libraries actually reside under /usr, so it has to be on the root partition, but /usr/local should be safe to move.

This means that you can put all the absolutely required directories on the SD card and everything else on a real drive.

  • But at the same time, Andrew Jackson is dead. So we aren't really bound to logistics here. It's the opposite. He's dead, so logistics becomes even more important. Do you know how difficult it is to transport corpses long distances legally?

  • Trying to fetch the package file returns 404, because old packages aren't retained forever. I'm not sure if they're kept around at all, or deleted the moment a new version is fetched, but so long as you update the sync db, (run pacman -Sy) you have nothing to worry about in that regard.

  • “There was no Tariff ‘exception’, Trump said in a social media post on Sunday. “These products are subject to the existing 20% Fentanyl Tariffs, and they are just moving to a different Tariff ‘bucket.’”

Sounds like something from The Onion.

  • If someone couldn't pass a driving test, they shouldn't be driving. This should apply to everyone, elderly or not. It's just that elderly people are less likely to be in as good of a condition as when they got their license for the first time.

  • I agree, and it could work like that here. (your driver's license is only valid for a certain time) But as far as I know, you only need to retake the tests when applying for renewal if your license expired multiple years ago. Otherwise, you only have to fill out some forms.

At least old people & those who've had their license taken away need to redo their tests, which is better than nothing, but not enough in my opinion.

  • It's not reasonable to assume that everyone has that much control in any situation. Removing yourself from a situation is not always possible. What can you do if it's caused by your environment, like family, school, etc.?

Life does have challenges & there always exists someone who can be miserable in a given situation. That doesn't mean that everything should be normal.

You can definitely affect some things & you might be able to choose how you see some other things. Still, some things are outside your control or "as they should be".
