  • I’m sure if Apple decides it’s worthy to ship it‘s going to be an improvement, but I can’t imagine how any sort of magnetic attachment could be strong enough to hold a watch to your arm.

I had the Milanese loop, which has a magnetic closing mechanism, and while biking on cobblestone it basically fell right off. How on earth should that be strong enough for mountain biking, diving, surfing, and all the other things Apple loves to show in their ads?

I highly doubt we’ll see that, but I’m happy to see radical changes to the watch itself.

  • I’m assuming you’re talking about the band closing mechanism? The article is talking about attaching the band to the watch itself via magnet:

The switch from the band-compatible sliding system to a new magnetic attachment system is an effort to reduce space, potentially unlocking more internal space for battery.

If you’re talking about the band closing mechanism, there’s plenty of magnet based bands from Apple already.

  • Fair enough, that’s not being taken away ^^

  • Here’s a link with the Reddit discussion timestamp: link

  • Yeah I’m not sure if that most recent episode is a particularly good one to post here, since parts of it are about Reddit/Lemmy or a particularly bad one for the same reason ^^

I don’t think Reddit has taken a huge hit and most people forgot about it already (some, probably everyone here, obviously didn’t). But I do think inevitably there’s going to be another time when Reddit messes up and by that time the alternatives and tools will be much more viable and alive than they were the last time.

  • I usually dread interviews in podcast because it changes the dynamic of the people talking, but in this one I actually enjoy them. They’re always tied in nicely and we’re all interesting so far.

  • In the PWA it actually froze up completely while you kept swiping, in the native app it’s there for half a second after swiping back. Far less noticeable and less severe, but it’s definitely still there for me.

  • Thanks for mentioning, I didn’t think of that. I still prefer to have "reduce transparency" off in general, it’s just a bit too much in Mlem and I prefer the look of having it completely turned off. Also with "reduce transparency" it’s definitely better, but still somewhat transparent and more gray than black in dark mode.

  • That sounds annoying :/ For me, as I mentioned, it’s actually the other way around. Voyager is the most reliable while many of the others are plagued by stutters.

  • Yes it does, just not as severe

  • Are you talking about the freeze after going back where you can‘t scroll for a second? Or the scrolling itself is stuttery? For me the scrolling itself is buttery smooth which actually many of the other apps don’t manage to do. But that’s just on my device.

  • You probably have heard this before, are you using the native version? It’s somewhat better there, but still an issue.

Voyager is built with a different framework (ionic/capacitor) than e.g. memmy (react native afaik) or Mlem (SwiftUI). The part that’s causing this isn’t done by the devs so it’s more or less out of their control. I’m pretty sure it can be fixed, I just don’t think it’s a high priority for whoever could fix it and if it’s an issue in iOS (is it a problem on Android as well?) or the framework.

So the fix for aeharding would be to use a different framework, which I’m pretty sure is not going to happen. But there are many other apps out there, feel free to pick one that doesn’t have this issue.

  • Not sure if it got added in this version, but the different haptic feedback when swiping back from an upvote is so satisfying!

  • I just tried that, the editing issue seems to be gone, but the scrolling is still not smooth sadly

Edit: editing issue reappeared shortly after

  • Bean for iOS has them. But it shouldn’t be impossible to implement this in voyager, right?

  • I already commented on this issue with a screen recording. Maybe it got lost since the issue was already closed.

Build 475, video. iPhone 12 Pro and iOS 16.6

  • I keep coming back to voyager again and again. The scrolling is buttery smooth, it‘s pretty much feature complete and the UI looks nice. Mlem has gotten pretty close, but the scrolling keeps being an issue.

  • I might be biased since I proposed and added this change, but I think that makes it way easier to focus on the headline of a post instead of looking at a big blob of text that looks the same. The headline will still be grayed out, maybe it just takes some getting used to? I’m sure if that’s a popular demand there could also be an option for that.

  • Not for me, sadly. Feels like it’s gotten worse again

  • Maybe as an option. Or perhaps collapsed at first with the option to expand it. I fear that the comments section would look very spammy otherwise and I read in a comment by aeharding that it’s very much on purpose not having them there
