  • Ah yes. I was on Waffles, until it shut down (or something). RIP 🧇

  • Which ones besides Salem?

  • fsck, or the File System ChecK program

    Saved you a click

  • Fool me twice … can’t get fooled again

  • I did not realize you were made of money! 🤑🤑🤑

  • Sure, CharityNavigator is good for research.

  • In lieu of sending gifts, sometimes I donate to charities that remind me of the recipient. For instance, for the bird lover, I donated in their name to Audubon. Etc.

  • Nice socks are a banger gift. I’ve gifted Smartwool socks, and also some hand knit thick cozy ones. Always a hit.

  • I use a strategy for some gifts which I call “luxury consumables”. Get someone something that they will use up (food, cheese, chocolate, olive oil, soap, booze, tea, etc) but that’s a bit nicer than they would get for themselves. If you can afford that!

For instance, flavored oil and vinegar for the chef. Fancy chocolate for… everyone. And in this case, smoked cheese! Sounds tasty AF.

  • Pocket knives are a nice gift all around!

  • Seems like Beeper will see the cleartext of the replies, though, since they send the notifications via BPNs, right?

[edit: thanks for the replies. I see now the footnote on their BPNs diagram: “Push notification does not contain message contents” so it seems like the answer is “no they will not”]

  • Jay, obviously, is a person who isn’t from the city — hence the term, Jaywalking! JK, but that is a real thing. It’s probably not the real answer here.

  • It’s not. Folding @ home is a good alternative

  • I have a nice rain jacket and the pockets fold over with a flap on top. Pretty legit.

There are some plastic bags that are meant to be long lasting but I have my doubts about how well they’d work on a jacket. What is the use case you’re imagining, exactly?
