  • Tรถlpel is originally a species of bird, but you're right, klutz is pretty close in meaning. Origin-wise it's pretty different though: klutz (Yiddish) & Klotz (German) are related, which means klutz is more like a stopping block made of wood/metal.

  • Huh. Google Translate gives me the translation I'd expected:

my colleague is a Black guy

min kollega er en svart fyr

In Germany, we used to have the exact same term with N, but using that term hasn't been ok since at least the early 90s.

  • I am almost sure I heard the word "negre" in there after the white guy asks for hair gel.

  • Just avoid buying diamond jewelry. They dramatically lose value as soon as you walk out of the jewelry store.

  • I feel like I've avoided subscriptions for the most part, except for basics like rent, energy, telephony, a travel card. The software I use is mostly open-source (some of which I voluntary support on a monthly basis). I don't need paid streaming because public TV streaming is good enough for shows/movies and YouTube with ad-block is good enough for music. I don't game.

  • The entire premise of this question seems insane. The only industry in which caffeine is vital is probably the coffee industry.

Yeah, there would be a black market and what not but that doesn't mean the world would stop turning off supply ran out.

  • Elmau Gotham, ya Balzac!

  • It's the entire UI of Steam. Same with Discord. Basically, the UI is made with the same tech that websites are made with and Electron is like Chrome displays the UI just like a website.

  • As the article states, initially the meal planner allowed adding dangerous ingredients.

The site actually uses ChatGPT 3.5 but you can't freely edit the prompt, instead you can only enter ingredients which are then added to a prompt template. They seem to be using a list of approved/rejected ingredients now, however, I tried adding household cleaner and glyphosat and both were rejected.

  • No, they were just really big on specialty meats/cheeses in open containers, left in the fridge for weeks.

  • Good point about condiments, those really tend to accumulate in fridges for years. Sometimes I just don't shop for a few weeks and try to use up all the food at home.

  • Interesting! Never heard of that but it makes sense.

  • Not really asking because I am affected. I just used to go out with someone who had a very smelly fridge full of meats and cheeses. I wanted to know if this is something a lot of people do.

Normally, my own fridge doesn't smell though. The last time I had any kind of smell, there were a few rotting limes somewhere in the back, and that produced a weird chemical odor which started clinging to dairy products. Finding and eradicating that took a while.

  • Neither saying that Slack's logo is a swastika nor that it's a Nazi swastika. But there's a certain similarity to a swastika which doesn't exist with the X logo.

  • With the Slack logo, at least there was something tangible. Here there isn't.

  • Hah, that wasn't meant as a mission. Just an idea I had watching the fun over on the other side. And I am wondering if Feddit as a host might too low-bandwidth to do it anyway.

  • I just had the stupid idea that we could try to create something like r/place. Basically people could comment coordinates/color, x,y,#HEX, and the bot would need to validate that syntax and delete comments that fail validation as well as comments from posters who previously made a comment.

The magic of turning this into an image would have to happen elsewhere though.

  • Oh, well I'm not op. So I don't know the intention behind the title. I figured making it look like the final part of the word had been swallowed silently was just a way to censor it.
