  • I’m an Apple customer but this is straight up wrong. Non-compete clauses this broad are ridiculous and practically stop ex-employees working anywhere they’re actually skilled to work. It quite literally ends someone’s career after their tenure.

If you’re expertise is SoC design and implementation, to be contractually restricted from working anywhere else that does SoC-related business is effectively kicking you out of the very industry and job pool you’re capable of working. Your mobility is totally stifled.

These kinds of restrictive covenants need to be outlawed or at least be limited to a short time frame no more than six months, requiring ex employers to pay the ex employee during this time if made redundant or fired or requiring the incumbent employer to pay the new employee during this time until they’re legally able to work again.

Hopefully this case goes against Apple favour and sets a strong precedent against absurd non compete clauses like this.

  • c/All browser here and not a subscriber of this community. But as a fan of Star Trek, I find this post pretty hilarious. Especially as Risa is part of at least four of the shows, at least one movie, several books, multiple games, RPG manuals, and more.

I imagine a hypothetical tatooine@starwars.website where the community posts nothing but pictures of sand with titles like “The beautiful view from my apartment” and someone dropping into that community to complain “what even is a tatooine!? all i can see is brown. why are you alienating non-starwars fans?

Or football@sport.websiteWhy is everyone running after spheres? Who are all these people? Why don’t you explain what a football are in your sidebar? Why are you alienating people who don’t have feet spheres?

Not everything on the internet is for you or required to cater to you. Rather than share negativity, simply try tapping on a different hyperlink instead and find something that is for you.

  • I’ve literally just got my phone back from a local phone repair shop (repairing my iPhone) and it’s Samsungs my repair person rants about (the Z and S models they mentioned in particular). They fixed my iPhone same day while I waited.

Looking at iFixit scores, that seems to track. Samsungs seem to get 2/10 to 4/10, Apple get 6/10s. Google Pixel 7 seems to get slated everywhere for taking the longest to repair.

Phones in general seem to be awful to repair but I do not see iPhones as any worse than the current trends of unrepairable flip phones or phones with flimsy components like the Pixel 7 rear camera glass.

  • Apple support and provide software updates for iPhones for 7 years. There’s plenty to hate about Apple but they’ve pretty much got the longest support for devices in the mobile industry.

I’d love to know more vendors who support their devices for longer than 7 years.

  • That’s so long as your install source/disk is multi regional. Most Windows install images are for a specific region unless you’re lucky to have MSDN or bought a non-crappy OEM Windows disk.
