  • Because its so hard to configure something on my mother's laptop that stays on a different continent, cannot figure out how to share screen. There is value in knowing which browser is better out of the box, so I can set it and forget it on any computer that's not mine.

  • I just got from isle of sky...... I'm not very big, but I'm awful shy..... Lassies shout as I walk by..... Donald wheres your trousers?

Fuck never thought anyone can punch me in the gut with an Andy stewert song.

  • Aegis works the best for me, it is specifically for power users because it allows sharing of the seed phrase quite easily. So may not be for users who don't understand that part. But for me has been a godsend. I am trying to get my parents on a better 2fa standards. And it works because I scan and setup 2fa first on aegis and then share it to their authy. They find authy useful and I'm not worried about them accidently sharing seed phrase.

For backups, aegis does automatic backups to local storage and next cloud syncs it to my cloud. It is encrypted so you can use something like foldersync to sync it your gdrive or mega or something like that.

Aegis is not multi platform, but I honestly don't care, in my opinion it's better to have aegis on my phone and when I need to login from a desktop, looking up the code in phone is a separate device factor which adds on to the security. Meaning if somebody knew my passwords and stole my laptop, they'll still have to steal my phone to access 2fa. Different story if they steal my phone though.

  • One I meant to say 1000 and two I meant to give a random number not a speicifc number. I'm not qualified enough to do that kind of assessment. But handing cash to solve one particular injustice rarely solves problems across the world.

Also defining victim would be a bigger Challange as well. I'm not saying I have all the solution, I'm just saying giving scholarships of value of whatever amt smarter people have agreed is what UK should pay for their past, is objectivly better than handing out cash.

Is this is greatest super power in the world?

    Jokes aside.

It's so funny you guys can't seem to look at things as black and white like cut funding for space and redirect that money to fix bridges. There is a concept of marginal benefit. Spending more money on bridges will not fix fundamental issues that league the country. What should be celebrated should be celebrated. What should be critized, should be critized. Both things can co-exist. Its not one or the other.

  • I understand what Britain did was wrong and requires corrective measures, but personally I just think financial reparation is not a very bright idea. For

    1. How do you ensure the money actually goes to victims in foreign countries
    2. If its given to their govts, what assurances UK has it'll be used to improvement of victim's life
    3. It can very well be used to fill the pockets of rich politician
    4. Even if ignoring all three, UK gets money in hand of ech victim personally, still doesn't help the fundamental problem of marginalised community, money will run out so far in their hands, they'll have no real impact.

I my opinion a 100 fully paid scholarships to university specifically for victims is a way better way to help them then just handing cash.

  • Yeah there is nuance to everything. I totally understand LW's decision and I don't blame them, main reason I don't have an account in LW becauze I saw this day coming long ago. And if lemmy keeps getting popular even lemmus.org might do the same and I would understand that too
