  • Yeah I'd say that's unpopular, no one can keep the same amount of "new Sci fi" concepts continously. And for me it's still worth a read, because they created a universe with a set of rules (keep protomolecule aside for now) that apply to all humans everywhere. And they never forgot that, not in any books, no stupid gravity generators, no ships appearing magically from somewhere, and they were consistent with that to the end.

That in my mind will always have a special place. And I'll always keep recommending expanse for anyone that cares about a bit sensible physics in their fantasy.

  • Not really no, some nordinc countries with geothermal and tidal options on top of wind and solar maybe, anything larger than an island nation, cannot reach net zero without some form of carbon capture, even if electricity is fully renewable we will still need steel, cement, we'll still have to refine metals for electronics and batters all of which emit GHG, so everyone has to use offset carbon somehow.

One way Iceland claims carbon neutrality is because they don't produce a lot of steel, but if you look from a consumption point of view, how much steel Iceland consumes, I guarantee you, it will look worse.

  • I don't think this is not getting attention, I've had to defend this project on three different platforms from morons that think money spent on nuclear fusion is waste and should go to only renewables. Then one guy spent 7 comment long chain arguing why biochar is the best options and solar and wind can suck ass.

  • But then if primary sources for Chinese government are unreliable why are the secondary sources from Chinese local newa agency acceptable? In that case even the secondary sources would be unreliable, where to draw the line?

  • Me and my cousin were both skiny af when entering teens, both of us bought these Jean jackets that fit us so well that we don't remeber buying something that snug before, both of us were very proud of these and wore them all the time until one elder cousin noticed the flipped button side, started making fun of us and to top it off the tag on jackets had a very small 3 font size "for women" under the brand name.

We still get shamed for wearing that by other cousin.

    Memories.

  • I downvotes solely for OP's comment. Nuclear energy has its place, if magically we had enough solar and wind farms constructed and even the grid built that connects the whole world, all of it magically just appearing. We will still not be able to retire fossil fuel power generation immidiately because we don't have a storage technology that scales well enough atm and renewable can't cover baseload as they can't generate 24x7 output.
