  • I'm not saying we go high. By all means, rip into them. The Harris campaign is doing a great job of that, using the truth. There's so much ammunition that the lies are just a drop in the bucket and serve no real purpose other than distortion. It's just pretty pointless.

  • Yeah wtf, 100ms is great.

300ms is the average reaction time in humans. Less than 100ms reaction time would be insane and I'm pretty sure it's something no one has actually achieved.

  • The negative impact a lot of screen time has on kids is very well documented. Basically, even educational shows do basically nothing for young kids. It's passive and doesn't help development in any way. Kids benefit a lot more from active exploration, play, and socialization.

"Moral panic" is a phrase reserved for complaints that have no basis in reality.

  • No, the legacy of HJKL in modern tools comes from vi, which itself uses them because the original ADM-3A terminal that Bill Joy used when developing it used HJKL in lieu of arrow keys.

vi was hugely influential and its legacy can be found in many tools beloved by software engineers and other tech-minded folks (and vi's successor, vim, is still widely used to this day).

  • I haven't really seen that honestly, it's pretty much a non-event. I have a kid, some of my circle don't plan on it. No one really cares.

I've seen childfree people on the internet complaining about people with kids plenty enough, but I always assumed they were a vocal minority.

The only time I've ever seen this topic as an actual point of contention in real life is people who insist on no kids at weddings. Which I do think is kind of a dick move, but also people's preogerative.

  • Last 3 years has been working on large backend web services in Haskell and Postgres, with some shell scripting thrown in here and there.

Before that, it was a mix of Python, Typescript (React), Rust, and C++.

  • Same story for Nebraska. Most of the population lives in Omaha or Lincoln which both lean blue, but Republicans gerrymandered the fuck out of our districts so we're a red state. And it matters a lot more here since we're one of two states that split our electoral college votes by congressional district. Like recently Lincoln overwhelmingly voted for a Democrat for our district in a special election, but Republicans naturally redrew the fucking maps to include counties that are fucking north of Omaha (like 120 miles away). Look at this shit: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nebraska's+1st+Congressional+District,+NE/@41.2698636,-96.4887192,8z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x87915d2ef259455b:0x74cb97568fa3047a!8m2!3d41.5312936!4d-97.2652858!16zL20vMDl0eHky?gl=us
