The reason given in the article the co-pilot accidentally fell asleep is because he has “one-month-old twins.”

Despite the phrasing in the top of the article (copied to the post), it sounds like the pilot had permission (from someone?) to rest and was intentionally sleeping, and it was only the co-pilot who accidentally fell asleep.

It’s posted to a privacy community and everyone is aware of the privacy concerns with anything Facebook. It’s pretty obvious that they’re saying that for some privacy-conscious people the answer to using Facebook Marketplace is no, but they want to know if anyone has advice for using it.

I spend about $12/day on ingredients, which is about the cost of a single meal at McDonald’s which is far less healthy. I don’t think that actually stands up when you look at the prices of cheap food (chicken, rice, beans, other legumes, potatoes) plus the costs of sides (fruits, vegetables).

Where are you located? It’s only $3.10 here, and $2.80 or less when it’s on sale (fairly often).

I run Asahi Linux on the M1, and it’s been working great for the last six months or so.

Edit: I wouldn’t necessarily recommend buying one to run Linux at the moment, for one thing they’re overpriced, but I was clarifying why the original comment would have suggested an M1.

What makes you think someone won’t manage to develop a performant large-scale quantum computer in the next hundred years? Just 90 years ago standard computers were still more or less electromechanical arithmetic machines.

The Apple M_ processors are great for performance to power usage ratio (and peak performance in general), so a MacBook is a good choice of laptop (even to run Linux on it).

Making a docker container can make it really painless, for example I’ve found Vaultwarden (self hosted Bitwarden server implementation, https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden) to be really easy to install. Just docker pull, and what Linux distribution and other particulars about your system don’t matter.

Eh, various Linux DEs have what are essentially app stores because it makes the OS more accessible. I don’t think it’s inaccurate to say that many people are so technically illiterate that they do need someone to control their experience for them. I think that is an issue, but it doesn’t change the fact that it is the current state of things.

On the other hand, forcing users into using an app store (Apple) is bad, plenty of users are smart enough to control their own experience and some of us like customizing our OS and apps.

It is actually possible to take out a loan against a 401(k), up to $50k depending on account balance (https://www.irs.gov/retirement-plans/retirement-plans-faqs-regarding-loans). Usually they have low interest rates, and the interest is placed back into the 401(k).

It leads to genuine confusion because of the difference between Mb and MB (and further MiB), so this is a good point to make in this case.
