  • Emojis don't have fixed meanings. A better solution to what you're asking for would be Slashdot-style moderation, where you can apply an upvote/downvote and specify a reason, and then the system would kind of average them together and say whether a comment is generally thought to be insightful, informative, trolling, etc.

  • Client-side decorations make every application look, work and feel different. It puts an inappropriate amount of control in the hands of app developers with questionable aesthetic and UX sensibilities, all to save like 5% vertical space and look fresh and modern in screenshots.

  • I think it's "access your data" permissions that are the ones to be wary of, due to the explanation here. Defending against this, I'm not really sure. Someone who knows more should chime in, but maybe a software firewall like Little Snitch/OpenSnitch that will let you approve/deny every connection. (This will probably get fatiguing fast.)

  • I don't know who this, is but his analysis is pretty indicting of Mozilla. Fortunately you can read the Mozilla post (he links to it) for yourself and see if it actually matches up with what he says. My analysis: Holy leaps of logic, Batman!

  • It helps to know if you're necessarily looking for a hosted service like Newsblur, able to self-host one on your own server, or just use a standalone client that runs on your Android and doesn't need to sync with anything else.
