Yes, _{it took a security researcher to find this out}. Package manager maintainers failed, and they were whom the average Linux advocate supposed will catch the back door, whenever they boasted about the safe-ness of Linux.

Iirc reinstalling grub is straight forward as long as you have a simple setup. On the other hand, troubleshooting on grub is meh.

Why do you have to take critiques on Linux as a threat? Will Linux problems go away if they remove "95%" of their post?

I have a sad feeling about Biden's military policy so far, watching the world police from Asia. This feeling started with Afghanistan.

I do understand that Afghan politics was to be blamed on regarding the chaotic US withdrawal there. Afghanistan failed to commit in democracy, and gave in to the Taliban. But at the same time, the US (or the larger peace keepers) recruited local advocates for democracy and then effectively handed them to Taliban. The event was especially cruel in that regard. That also made a devastating damage to future attempts at democracy in the middle east – the lesson was, sadly, not to trust the west, because you can be thrown under the bus together with your daughters, sons, spouse and parents.

Who'll cooperate with the west the next time a terrorist organization threatens democracies?

As I admitted, Afghanistan was to be blamed on this, and the internet also sympathized with Biden, to the extent that looked to me like tribalism at times.

This time with Gaza, (let me say) finally, Biden is criticized for his support on attacks against Gaza. This is again sad. At least the US liberals are not going full-on tribalism to support their President.

Why? As we believe that race doesn't contribute to anything, race distribution of US Beehaw users is going to reflect that of the US.

Unless we can see what the other 35% of users looks like, we Beehaw folks can't understand what is meant by "more non-whites". (Edit: checked the survey; it's mostly from the west)

It's possible, but Lemmy's APIs are designed for Lemmy's goal (if they have any) and internals. Lemmy can change APIs to make their code development easier. Instead, Beehaw would follow the same APIs to make theirs harder.

So, IF there'll be a few apps that respect Beehaw APIs that'll save Beehaw devs' time, and so they can focus more on their goals.

Throwing the user face into competition does improve the quality.

In the June survey summary, you wrote you had interest in knowing where users come from etc., but those don't appear as questions in the current survey.

Given that ~70% of US citizens are white, and Beehaw users are mostly US citizens, 75% users being white is very close to the expectation. I wouldn't express this as "unfortunate" as you wrote in your June summary.

The diversity survey deserves a dedicated one. If you show answers split by diversity categories, that's another matter.

Maintaining compatibility is not a good idea in the long run. Lemmy may change its API. Beehaw would become unusable, then.
