  • It doesn't hurt his popularity with his supporters that so many hate him, it fits with the overall narrative of that constituency that people want them silenced.

You can see this is in how many conservatives complain about cancel culture silencing them, they use phrases like "you can't say anything anymore" enmass on social media and run dozens of media publications and TV about how their voices are being silenced.

The irony of all this is ignored in the fury.

To really understand trump's popularity you need to see him as a symptom not a cause. People who grew up without exposure to difference, in environments where difference was not tolerated, are feeling upset that the differences are being accepted.

They always believed the narrative that those differences just didn't exist in the past and so the can see a rapid change in the world which they see as the destruction of the world they know.

Had they known that differences were their all along, only being kept out of sight, they'd know this isn't a slide towards anything, it's just a recognition of everything that was always already there.

  • Techniques to manage the intensity of emotions sit between the parts you're describing.

I agree that Inbetween the feeling rising up and our reaction there's a choice to be made. Highly intense feelings overwhelm and reduce our choices in the moment.

Understanding what's underneath or behind our feelings is one excellent way to do this which sadly doesn't work for everything, especially the most intense feelings

  • Don't waste energy trying to live life with zero irreversible or undesirable consequences.

Plan to avoid them, sure. Make good choices, sure. Accept that a lot of your learning, growing and opportunities will emerge from irreversible and undesirable outcomes

  • I really really wanted to use Jerboa. I love Jerboas and I love FOSS.

But I tried sync today and it's just better.

Really disappointed at the pricing model but I'm just ad blocking it in protest of the insane pricing.

As an app though, I'd happily buy it for a reasonable price given the quality.

  • The previous reply was saying it's really powerful to be in a position where you can walk away from the new job offer, for you to have a clear line of what you're willing to accept and what you're not. Part of the reason you're asking this here I guess is to help you decide on that line.

Having more options and some of idea of what they're likely to pay you is going to be more helpful in empowering you to choose a pay level with your new employers than our opinion as we're working with very little information.

Do you know what the company was paying your current employer for the support they were getting? Can you find out?

Assuming your current employer was making a good markup on your work you can afford to ask for a good sized pay increase and the new employers will be happy as it's still less than they have been paying.
