Maybe like a subscription where people could pay a fee to avoid ads?

Imagine being chased by a t1000 when it suddenly stops and displays a message “you are out of t1000 credits. The t1000 will resume chasing you in four hours or you can opt to be chased by a t3.5 instead”

So lead, plastic, and PFAS are fine but fluoride is where they draw the line…?

Many would leave lemmy entirely. Either because they barely used lemmy anyway or the communities they were most invested in were lost.

Some would fragment across multiple instances, especially if the communities do so.

The bulk would probably move together to a single instance "annointed" as the new default.

Cups, teaspoons, and tablespoons in this context are standardized units of measure. It is very common to find at least one set of measuring cups and spoons in a US kitchen. Scales are uncommon.

I use both. For flour, scales are far, far superior. For sugar, it does not really seem to matter. For small amounts, I suspect my tea/tablespoons might be more accurate than my scale...

Not that accuracy matters that much in a recipe using eggs. Chickens aren't necessarily known for precision...

I just poked a hole through a dozen or so sheets and held it over another pile of sheets. Trivial and worked well enough for seeing the partial eclipse.

If the NCAA really cared about fairness they would do something about the suspect and wildly inconsistent officiating.

Anxiety (especially now that planes are oversold and standby passengers are nearby waiting to grab empty seats...), the need for overhead bin space, not wanting to have to climb over people, illogical impatience, etc.

Probably comic book sacrilege, but I'd like to see him return as a version of Doctor Doom. In this scenario, Doom has already been reveiled with a different actor in a Fantastic Four movie (this will later be handwaved as being in an alternate unverse...) Rumors and spoilers for Robert Downey Jr being in a new marvel movie are deliberatly circulated (e.g. they owe him one more under contract, are just trying to use his name to revive the brand, it will be a flashback, etc.)

Then in a major scene of an avengers like movie. The heros (most of whom had a close relation with Tony Stark) are facing off against Doom. They start giving the usual heroic speech about saving the world and whatnot, critisizing Doom for prioritizing his own nation over the world, when Doom replies with something like "what good is there in saving the world if you have to sacrifice the ones you love" as his iconic Doom mask fractures in a pattern similar to the Ironman mask, and Tony Stark's scarred face is reveiled.

This version of Tony would be from a universe where in the confrontation with Thanos, just as the stones were fusing with Tony's glove, something (obscured and kept from the audience) hit him and he failed. Thanos immediately grabed the stones, snapped, and that universe was destroyed. The residual stone energy in the suit transfered Tony to the main universe where he becomes Doom.

His role in this "phase" would be to force the heros into considering uncomfortable truths, but also to work on a meta level as a commentary on the Marvel movies as a whole. Doom would outright call out (in universe) the same issues fans (and anti-fans) have with the series and nearly break the 4th wall.

There would be an especially tragic scene with Spiderman (forced to confront his hero turned villain.) And a scene with Pepper where she starts off confronting him in hopes of using their emotional connection to create an opening, and in a scene reminiscent to the near kiss from Iron Man 1, there is a brief moment where it seems they might actually fall for each other all over again, then Doom says something like "close, but you are not her" disengages and triggers an action scene.

If "God created man and woman as biologically different" then who created all the different intersex people? Even if you ignore or dismiss trans people, there are other people whose sexual characteristics at birth were not so easily sorted into male or female, and others whose physical traits either don't align with the basic understanding of "sex" chromosomes or whose chromosomes are different than XX and XY.

Logically, if God exists, then either their statement is wrong and He does make people whose gender is indeterminate, or there is another god who is also making people. Or perhaps He is not that involved in the process, and "God's Plan" is more of a loose framework.

Hmm. Does God know the largest prime? Does God know the last digit of pi?

Yeah, that’s why any exception would have to be narrow and carefully worded and I’m not even sure it would be possible.

Both risks are pretty bad. Make the protections too strong and people will abuse the privilege. Too weak and governments will abuse the exceptions.

Eh, maybe I’m overthinking it. Even the first amendment is understood not to protect certain kinds of speech. Although sometimes I wonder if those exceptions could survive if directly challenged in our modern situation…

You are more optimistic than I am. I worry a particularly “slanted” Supreme Court might interpret school vaccine requirements, quarantine, etc. as coercive violations of bodily autonomy.

Maybe if the amendment had a limited public heath exception and some protections for doctors. But the wording would be tricky.
