  • I have some tech savvy friends who caved in a took a YouTube premium sub because they didn't know the fix to refresh ublock rules.

    So I think YouTube's strategy is working, even if they are not completely blocking blockers they are still converting some blockers to paying users.

  • Maybe after we see that new Snapdragon on Windows PC, and enough games run on ARM Windows, then Valve would consider switching chip.

    I don't see why they would lead the way on that front, in addition to the software compatibility layer between Linux and Windows.

  • The FOSS part of Android has been shrinking as Google let the FOSS apps die in favor of their proprietary apps.

    And the worse they did is Play Services, meaning a lot of apps won't run on a pure FOSS Android.

  • Because as you said, it's impossible to create an alternative app store that works and auto update like the Play Store does.

    Google has is in a duopoly with Apple for smartphones OS. They are abusing their dominant position on mobile OS to ensure a dominant position on mobile app stores.

    That's exactly what the antitrust laws are about: abusing your position in one domain to kill competition on another.

    Yes Apple is worse, that means the situation needs to change on both platforms.

  • Yes it's all business.

    Partnership team finds the biggest bidder for the default search.

    Marketing teams find the best argument against their biggest competitor.

    At no point anyone is pondering if Google is "good" or "bad" because companies typically don't care.
