  • What is Facebook doing to encourage people to read things they post? When I dropped Facebook in 2015 it was mostly memes rather than articles being put in my timeline. Are they promoting articles over memes now too?

  • I use the opposite approach and sort by new in subscribed communities only by default and take note of the submitter. Some people make consistently higher quality posts than others.

  • How would you identify and decide which articles to read?

  • Advantage over what alternatives that can't be locked down?

  • How do you see Matrix integrating with Lemmy? They don't seem compatible in any way.

  • Network effects have always been strong with online services.

  • Any YouTube channel is insufficient. You need to practice.

  • In his Telegram post today, Durov — borrowing some of the more “high-level” language that other social media executives have used — said that “Telegram’s moderators and AI tools remove millions of obviously harmful content from our public platform,” but he also swiftly moved on to defending the app continuing to allow sensitive content under the category of “war-related coverage.”

“Tackling war-related coverage is seldom obvious.” (He does not define what the line is between “obviously harmful” and “war-related coverage.”)

“While it would be easy for us to destroy this source of information, doing so risks exacerbating an already dire situation,” he continued, citing how, he said, Hamas used Telegram to warn civilians in Ashkelon to leave the area ahead of missile strikes. “Would shutting down their channel help save lives — or would it endanger more lives?” he asked in his post today.

  • And they won't collect information about the subscribers, right?

  • Are you assuming a developer in the US? Many great developers in South America and Europe that don't expect $120K/year.

  • Is there a level of funding that would make the admins comfortable hiring a developer to work on whatever platform that Beehaw will eventually move to?

  • It's illegal to fire a gun in a mall for good reason. The man was found guilty of doing exactly that.

  • He was found guilty of exactly the crime you're concerned about for the exact reason you're concerned about.

  • In 120 years, people will likely have a better idea of what the trajectory of Bennu will be. No one currently alive needs to do anything at all about this. This is a science experiment for our lifetimes.

  • For $500 they get what they get. Get it in writing that they are accepting your results unconditionally.
