  • If the total population of a species falls below a certain threshold, that species is doomed due to low genetic diversity.

One last-ditch attempt would be to interbreed with a closely-related species, so the best (as in, has a .001% chance of working) option in this case might be to locate a willing chimp.

  • There definitely is real, experimental psychology, but unfortunately the vast majority of psychology in the popular consciousness, and even in some academic / professional bodies, is modern-day phrenology. (Also I'd cut Freud some slack, since he was working based on the standards of his time.)

  • I can think of three advantages of uniforms:-

    • They reduce competition for expensive clothes and build solidarity.
    • They are usually cheap and durable, suited for children who will get their clothes dirty (and occassionally fight).
    • It is.easier for people to identify if a students gets lost (particularly when outside school).

Of course, for this to work the uniforms should be simple, affordable and comfortable. And they should be uniform - no gendered outfits or special clothes for some students.

  • There are now plenty of companies making single-board computers. There are even ones based on Rockchip that run almost entirely on free software. The only things RPi had going for it were brand recognition and software support.

    • Each state in India has its own police force. You don't know where this group's admin lives (except that he's probably from a Hindi-speaking state, but there are like ten of them).
    • There's no evidence he has done anything illegal. Police don't do anything unless you have pretty strong evidence (or some VIP asks them to).
  • This is very sad.

For us the transfer is either near-instantaneous (new system, called UPI) or done in batches every half an hour (old system). I guess this is why banks can't do this trick.

  • modern war isn’t about riflemen. There’s a massive infrastructure required to keep tanks and planes running, not to mention things like carrier battle groups.

The problem is that they don't need to 'win' to get what they want; they just need to be enough of a nuisance to get concessions from the government. And both Ukraine and Gaza are showing us how effectively a bunch of people with rifles, drones and RPGs can frustrate an army. Sure, a lot of them will die, but I worry that it might be a sacrifice their leaders are willing to make if that means they get to hurt a lot of innocent people.

  • The United States government has a federal structure, unlike most governments.

Most large countries have a federal structure. Just from my memory, Canada, Mexico, Brasil, Germany, Spain, Italy, Nigeria, South Africa, the UAE, Russia, China, India, Indonesia and Malaysia at least.

Dual federalism is this divide between the power of the federal government and the state governments.

    Isn't this just normal federalism?
