  • I would wager most of nowadays instances have either fallen into obscurity or just finished existing, I think we will see instancea more focused in scalability if thr fediverse grows in popularity, whoch will kind of dominate the space.

  • Yeah D frag also made a board game, but my problem with that is that the results feel random as not all rules are explained nor are the squares shown so you only see stuff happen instead of understanding how it would play.

That aside, yeah fictional sports are kind of a difficult concept to pull off (think of how boring quidditch is) and even when they do most are technically variations, but I'm fine with that, if there is a fantasy magic world where they have real sports but with magic I would still consider it a different thing.

  • Yeah I'm kind of having the same problem which made me really interested in the topic, Sketch dance was actually on my read list so knowing they have one is nice.

There is technically Megalobox if we count anime, also JoJo part 7 kind of race which offered complete freedom in vehicle selection and allows for weapons.

I have the feeling that some isekai I read had a sport that demons used to play but I can't pinpoint what it was.

I also remember a doujin that treated sex as a competition as akin to artistic gymnastics

I did try to think of competitions like the death games in Alice in Borderlands, also omniscient readers viewpoint and tower of god had many interedting competitions, but while sports are part of games, games are not all sports, then again, chess is by some considered a sport so I'm currently really confused if any of these games would actually be a sport and where the line lies. Maybe my question should be games in general...

But at the end of the day there just aren't that many games I can remember that I would intuitively consider a sport like it happens for air gear and megalobox. Its kind of disappointing since it is a pretty interesting area to explore for world building and it rarely takes much attention.

  • I really dont think location is playing a role here, Im from chile but 100% of the content I consume on youtube is in english, the shorts have also appeared in english. I doubt this content is due to location as im not close to the US nor is there particular US cultural dominance in the area (most people consume youtube in spanish, be it creatos from latin america or Spain)

  • Not necessarily, although YouTube shorts may be it's own thing in terms of algorithm I frequently see andrew tate, ben shapiro, jordan peterdon clips despite disliking and inmediatly scrolling past when I see their faces. Also I have encountered a lot of anti feminism content of the likes of 2014 this year, where someone is seen mocking "feminists" making what seems like stupid remark and getting owned with some sigma face meme from the american psycho guy and music.

it has been the case multiple times that the YouTube algorithm makes weird connections which often lead to right wing channels being promoted. Or sometimes an entire subsection of creatores are libked with the alt right without being direct (the old atheism sphere, gaming channels are common ones too)

  • Its within connect, and they would probably be able to see your comments in a neutral instance. It is a temporary solution but I have been really pleased with it by blocking most porn only instances, at least its useful in that regard.

There was an issue on github asking for this but I dont know its status

  • The app connect for lemmy on android allows for this right now, I believe it blocks posts and comments alike

There is probably also a browser extension, but I haven't really searched since I'm mostly a mobile user

  • Nice!

    So this week I:

    • Started "Transfer student storm bringer", currently at chapter 63.

Im reading the original not the remake since I heard that one sucks. This one is a pretty nice misunderstandings based comedy, from a mixture of his mean appearance and ungodly luck the protagonist who was just a wimp at his past school starts his journey into becoming one of the most feared delinquents in school. Its pretty funny, the translation is a bit weird, at least the one Im reading feels like it was done by someone at 4chan, but the language at least makes some sense when you consider they are all edgy delinquent teens.

    • Dropped "skip to loafer" at chapter 27

I dont know why exactly but I havent been enjoying this romance so I decided to drop it

    • Currently reading "Release that witch" for my second read through, currently at chapter 24

This is a really special manhua for me, it is one of those "development anachronic isekai" where the protagonist starts revolutionizing a fantasy world, at least this one makes sense do to his background as an engineer + the witches powers, so I didn't get annoyed at the protagonist suddenly building a lot of stuff he has no business knowing how to like it usually happens in this genre. Also, the art and coloring are god tier. The world building has a lot of thought put into it, on the background of the story there is a political war going on in the kingdom as the king has made it a competition for his 5 heirs to inherit, there is also a conspiracy with the church and a lot of interesting details about the world even outside the kingdom.

I really recommend checking this one out if those city builder isekais are your thing

  • I dont care about the points, but man finding what I was subbed has been a pain, and actively maintaining and subscribing in parallel to the same communities would be kind of tiring as a safe measure, I will probably just take screenshots of my subbed communities from now on

  • Im still on the process of searching for some of the subs I used to be subscribed to, luckily I could still search my account so I immediately subscribed to all the communities I had commented on, but those that I only read are still a mystery to me.

Truly a pain in the ass

  • What would facebook have to gain from paying LEMMY ADMINS this far in advance? If it was mastodon admins that would be one thing, but lemmy isnt even the target for threats, and the instances are so small yet it is practically useless for facebook to pursue something that could backfire so hard by people leaking the messages if they offered to bribe admins...

  • I think the reason XMPP comes so much is because every single person read the post in /all, seriously I feel that is the biggest reason xmpp is the example being given instead of whenever microsoft has done it which is a lot more times and at least those we know definitely were done in bad faith because of the court cases as opposed to google abandoning XMPP.

Its fine to hate Meta and its fine to want the instance to be federated, but Im genuinely tired of people having this attitude of whomever isnt completely against federation with meta is either ignorant or dumb, like seriously a lot of people havent given proper thought of how EEE would look like and especially those saying "we need to defederate from anyone that hasnt defederated with meta" as a punitive measure are really tiring.

I probably will change my mastodon account if the instance doesnt defederate or at least make an alt account, but I dont believe some instances not defedarating will bring doom to the fediverse, that is not how this was designed to be. And for people to be so in arms here in lemmy that they are threatening and making all this big statements, well thats plain weird.

  • I don't experience that tbh, I do notice that there are a lot of negative posts but that is do to the anti meta/threats circlejerk that was a bit strong this past week, and the week before it was all about how reddit is so bad now that people have migrated (another negativity fueled circlejerk), but these were more present on big communities that I saw when I browsed by /all, the small communities I frequent are still as good as they were if not better do to them growing and being a lot more active.

(just in case, the account is new but I have been browsing for like a month, its just vlemmy went down)

  • I thought you were talking about the idea he was cleaning the servers from such content, but now I see you were actually saying he completely pulled the plug.

So yes, that is a posibility, but not giving any sort of heads up its closing or anything is just weird even if that were the case, this would not constitute a larger admission than what he already did since he already had said he was defederating from an instance to avoid that kind of content. And to my knowledge, as long as they are moderating this stuff social media and the like dont put the owner in trouble, otherwise every ceo of twitter or facebook would have gone to prison a long time ago.
