  • I believe the question goes:

Would you become immortal and receive a million dollars, if the only thing that could kill you was being touched by an also immortal snail, which constantly moves toward you at a snails pace and cannot be contained or blocked by any means?

Either that, or there existed multiple versions of the question, which isn't unlikely.

  • I've begun applying 2-4 drops of oil to the tips of my hair after bath. The idea is, that your scalp will oil up and protect the rest of the hair, but usually doesn't manage to apply the protective layer to your hair ends before next bath.

  • If there's anything I've learnt from video games, then it's that water is always safe, no matter how much speed you fall with.

If there's anything I've learnt from slamming my own waterski's snout into the back of my head and being sown at hospital with 11 stings, then it's that water is very much not soft at high speeds and water resistance is a bitch.

  • I think AI belongs in the same box as electronics, which is just black magic with a cover story to make it seem like science.

You know how electronics sometimes release smoke when misused? Yea, that smoke is actually what makes the component work, and it's a hell of a chore to put the smoke back in when it first has escaped!

Or do you know that planes actually "fall up into the sky" when they have enough speed? Ever looked at a jet fighter? Yea, the wings are actually just decoys.

Perhaps the memes would be better placed in witchymemes, or maybe we should make a new community for real, black magic, magus bullshit, "science".

(Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, the examples above are jokes we like to tell each other. I know how that stuff actually works, and I'm obligated to make this disclaimer so you don't realize that most engineers actually are modern day mages.)

  • Right now it's your right to do what you want to your car as long as it still passes vehicle inspection, but it appears that car makers want new laws that prevent you from modifying your own car.

If we just sit on our hands now, well likely move into a future where we will be forced to either pay subscription or take public transit, which requires subscriptions.

  • Like hearing multiple octals at the same time, when you've only ever heard one?

Like feeling cold and hot, when you've only ever felt uncomfort?

Like tasting sour and sweet, when you've only ever tasted bitter?

Like going to the country and smelling nature, when you've only ever smelt the smog of the city?

EDIT: no wait, that's for someone who is partially blind, don't think it works for someone who has never perceived sight.

  • This is likely the viewpoint if the wast majority.

If it's hard to get through legal means, and comparatively easy to acquire through alternate means? Whelp, guess what is gonna happen...

If I remember correct, then we saw a decline in piracy when Netflix became big, but now that they have become just as convoluted and bugged down as everybody else, I've personally started seeing more interest in piracy on the internet again.

  • Please don't hang me up on this, but I'm pretty sure that "I don't care about cookies" defaults to accepting some/all cookies, while ublock blocks them.

Both get rid of the banners, but if you also want to get rid of the cookies themselves, then ublock might be better.

Edit: Or rather ublock blocks the banner, which means that the site can't legally put a cookie on your PC.

  • My claim is that fuel can be done right (read "clean", more on that later), just how nuclear power can be done right. Will it be done right? Probably not.

Also, clean does not mean no pollution, at least not in our world. Solar cells pollute, windmills pollute. Green energy in general pollutes quite a lot when compared to "no pollution at all".

No pollution seems unrealistic with current technologies and politics, so best we can do is attempt and limit our pollution to technologies which pollute less, or at least have the possibility of polluting less.

Also, how did natural gas become a clean, green source of energy? (that's a rethoric question, I know why, i just think it's stupid.)

  • As far as I understand, the idea behind synthesized fuel is to bind CO2 to create the fuel, which theoretically should make it net neutral, if one ignores power consumption and chemical usage, as well as the CO2 probably not being sourced from the atmosphere.

In other words, the technology should be sound enough, but it will most likely not be used for good, as per my first post.

Then we come to the other issues I mentioned. The fuel should theoretically be CO2 neutral, but the plane does not fly where the factory is located. It flies some ~10km above surface, which means that we are pumping CO2 into the middle layers of the troposphere, which probably is bad idea.

Edit: i realize that I formulated myself in a rather unlucky way in the first comment, whelp.

  • If done wrong? Then yes.

Kinda like nuclear is one of the most clean power sources we have, until you put the raw waste into nothing but iron barrels and store them in a salt mine, and then wonder why the underground is becoming radioactive.

Planes can be clean, it's just a question of using synthesized fuel (edit: as in artificially created fuels, hydrogen-mixes, kerosene replacements, the stuff they use for rocket propellant, that kind of fuels), and not refined fuel (edit: from oil). Of course there are some other problems associated with jet planes, but fuel shouldn't necessarily be one.

  • Shut down the computer and disconnect it from the internet, if you haven't already done so.

With another computer (or your phone) download Spybot (i think it's still considered one of the best free tools out there) and move it to your pc, let it run its scan, and check the results.

Oh, and like @Fazoo@lemmy.ml stated, this isn't foolproof, so if you want to be really sure, then follow their advice instead.

Can't say how this "hacker" got you with the provided information, but if he can put a file on your desktop, then he can likely see your files too. It wouldn't happen to be one of your friends pulling a fast one on you?
