  • oh yeah. I stopped pirating during the golden age of Netflix because it was just more convenient to pay and stream. Now piracy has become the easiest way to get new content again.

  • There are phones which aren't sold in the EU which could have other connections. Now they can't be sold in Saudi Arabia as well. It's probably not a large number, but even if it's 1,000 less phones that use a non-USB-C connection, that's still 1,000 phones.

Don't get me wrong, I agree Saudi Arabia is doing this for their external image, but you can't deny it has some consumer benefit for their citizens, however small.

  • it’s going to suck when the next, better standard comes along and the are all these laws preventing phones from adopting it

this argument keeps being trotted out.

    1. Standards can change.
    2. The USB-C protocol allows for future improvements. The spec allows for charging at capacities far higher than exist today, and the connection type so far supports USB3.0, 3.1, 3.2, USB4 and even the unfortunately-named USB4v2.0. The USB-C connection type will still be around for USB5.3v2max SuperSpeed or whatever it's called in 2030.
  • I'm still waiting for them to change the godawful quick toggles. Not only do the quick toggles take up so much space now (it almost feels like accessibility mode is on by default), Wifi and Mobile Internet are hidden behind a second layer of toggles.

  • If you read the link you sent, you'll see that those tools don't exist on most websites - it's a dedicated software for screen recording so product managers can understand how users use the site.

It's actually a great example to highlight what I said - on most websites, you can't track detailed user behavior, only clicks and the time of the click. You need to install software to find that out. On apps, you can track where the user scrolls, where they stop scrolling/scroll more slowly, and a lot more.

On a website, all you know is that the user took 2 minutes between loading the page and clicking button X. On an app, you can see that the user scrolled on the right edge (probably right handed), paused along the way at section A, exited the app (maybe they got a notification), came back to scroll down and click on button X.
