  • It's amazing for traveling with. I've found that streaming devices like a Chromecast or Roku are hit or miss at most hotels/motels, but the Steam Deck in desktop mode with a USB hub and HDMI cable works basically anywhere.

I also keep some movies and shows downloaded just in case the Wi-Fi particularly sucks wherever I am.

  • You aren't wrong about any of this, but let's not forget that a split second "BYAAAAAH" (Howard Dean) can tank an entire presidential run if it gets media attention.

With that said, Trump has had dozens of these blunders over the years. It means nothing.

  • That makes sense. I think what confuses me about this reaction more than anything is the fact that we've had all these different AI recreations of other dead artists that are being met with either a neutral or even positive reception.

I've seen a bunch of Kurt Cobain and Chester Bennington songs created by AI where the comments are all talking about how much they love/miss the artist, then this drops and everybody loses their shit.

  • Well they aren't trying to pass this off as Carlin's material. The video starts and ends with a disclaimer saying that it's an AI generated impersonation.

What if this set was entirely written and performed by a human but in the style of George Carlin? Is that as tasteless?

  • What do you mean by installation quirk? Having a GPU and needing a driver?

That seems pretty common to me. I also know people interested in PC gaming who are also low skill and I certainly wouldn't recommend Linux to them (only exception being the Steam Deck).

  • Others have already responded to you with many of the same complaints I was going to bring up so I'll just highlight a few things:

    • First off, I have a 2019 Subaru Impreza so not the latest generation
    • There used to be this issue where, upon turning the car on, you couldn't interact with the infotainment system for a good 10 seconds which includes volume adjustments. Let's say you had the volume set to 20 (max 35) when you last drove, well it's going to be blaring as soon as you start up the car again, but you won't be able to do anything about it for a good 10 seconds. Luckily this issue has gotten better (I believe with a firmware update from the dealership after I complained), but it's still not fixed completely.
    • Recently I took my car in for work and they needed to keep it overnight, so they let me borrow a brand new 2024 Outback Touring. This was great cause I got to test a brand new car "for free," and what I learned is that they now put all HVAC stuff (seat warming, climate control, etc.) on this screen that has poor touch sensitivity. It's obnoxious. Also the system itself is only marginally better than my 5 year old car, which is to say it's still incredibly clunky and slow. They've made improvements, no doubt, but it's built from the same trash.
