  • That sounds expensive. How many roads have such bike lanes? Hypothetically, if you wanted to replace a trip to the grocery store, how useful would they be?

  • I have literally never seen the idea of a 15 minute city being restrictive anywhere other than the ravings of Alex Jones tier wingnuts. Everybody who actually pushes the concept just thinks you should have a grocery store, a doctor's office, a library etc. near your house.

Edit: and don't get it twisted, nobody is saying you should be forced to relocate either, it's a guideline for urban planning.

  • I hate to be that guy in this case but he has not been convicted, and so he is an alleged murderer. He deserves the pre-trial treatment we would like to be given to someone who has been wrongly accused.

I wish him a speedy trial and a very fucking long execution.

  • Not that it'll stop them from trying but the constitution does say you have to be a natural-born citizen.

  • If I'm being honest I read the one sentence, thought "oh that's really funny in light of the top comment," came back to share the bad news, and forgot about the article entirely.

  • I have some bad news about the first sentence in the article

  • They are quite similar, to the point that redbacks are sometimes called "Australian black widows" over here

  • Ah, but if we're splitting hairs then we must consider that none of the wee beasties in the image are true bugs.

  • I think Abraham Lincoln's head just did that.

  • During the siege of Leningrad they actually did have to resort to cooking in machine oil, among other awful things. Of course they were almost all women, because the men were fighting the war

  • I read in popular science that it might be possible to use a variety of different kinds of gases to carry heat, or perhaps some kind of radiant heat or even radio waves to cook food. But sadly this fantastic technology is still just fiction. I hope I get to see a form of cooking that doesn't involve immersing food in hot liquid. I wonder what it would taste like.

  • China will still have an operational station. Probably.

  • You theoretically could make the cash tips just disappear. The computer where I work guesses based on a rolling average of your card tips and it's usually pretty close. Which suggests to me that if anyone went snooping they could key in to the statistical anomaly of your curiously low cash tips rather easily. At the end of the day you're rolling the dice.

Personally I do report, partially because I don't want to piss off the IRS if they ever do take an interest in me but mostly because I don't qualify for housing assistance even without reporting them and nobody will rent to me unless I do report them because, get this, I don't earn an extra $3 for every $1 the rent goes up, especially not in wages. I am actually kind of jealous of apparently everyone else in the industry who somehow get approved for apartments despite making half of what they're supposed to on paper

  • Sure, as long as he doesn't hear you calling him that
